Stretching a 4x8 TD to a 5x8 ?

Postby Flynnworx » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:09 am

Hello fellow camp nuts!
I built my generic benroy 2 years ago on a 4x8 trailer I had. My walls, floor and ceiling are insulated; my galley is almost perfect; everything is happy and holding up great except my wife wants more room. She doesn't freak out from the claustrophobia anymore, but she says banging into the wall sleeping is too confining.
I am thinking of redoing roof, floor and hatch (after finding new 5x8 frame) It would also give me a chance to extend the front profile into the storage box space which would help the profile looks in my humble opinion.
Anybody else do this yet?
I will update my pics

Seems wiser to sell it and build another.

My thoughts exactly!
I have redone too many cars that the owners should have just sold and started fresh.
In the end it costs way more money and you throw too much away!
I would continue to use the 4x8 so as not to lose the camping season and start on the new one!
Making "ALL" of the changes you think you would have made if you had the chance to do it again.
This "IS" your chance!

I agree with the above as well. Keep camping in your 4x8 while you build your 5x8.

Yes, extend your cabin into your tongue box. Not many folks have done that, but it gains you some valuable space.

Here's what Jess did... viewtopic.php?p=998527#p998527

Thanks for the replies :) I am definitely not taking anything apart now and missing out on camping season
I am planning my winter project early; hopefully my wife will learn to love our TD as much as I do :worship:

ok while agree sure sell and build a new one and with her input.
If you have to why not convert it into a trolley top.
