Are stabalizers a must?

Postby RandyG » Sat Jun 01, 2013 5:40 pm

Before I get too far without installing them, I would like to know if any of you are camping without stabalizers. It will take some mildly time consuming engineering to install some on my frame. I was almost thinking of not using any and bringing some small jacks just in case. Thoughts?

I have them but have not used them, they are scissor type welded to the frame. Most of the time I forget to put them down

The only time I have slept in my tear without my jacks down would be when in a parking lot or truck stop. I built mine in and use them every time when feasible and they absolutely help with the stability of my camper. I put stabilizers on the rear of my tear and they make my tear a stable sleeping platform. I wouldn't leave home without them.

Don't have them, been that way since I built it 7yrs ago. Leveling is a different matter, I use the tongue jack for fore/aft and Lynx blocks for side/side.

We do not have them and feel no need. I think some of it is the trailer suspension and wheel placement. We have torsion axles that are frankly too far back.

Personally they are a must. I am very sensitive to having my bed both level and motionless in order to get a good night's sleep.

I have the screw out kind and only use them on the front corners to keep the camper from moving while were in it.
In my opinion you don't need them on the back because when you're in the camper, most of the weight is up front.

I don't have them, and don't miss them. I can't think of even one time I have thought to myself they would be nice to have. But, some people are more sensitive to movement than others. I have had a water bed before, and that I considered a mistake after a while, like a few years. But my camper without stabilizers I do not consider a mistake.

Thank you everyone for the input. I will just skip them now and buy some of the screw-out types if I think we need them after a couple of trips.

I just use these when needed http://www.amazon.com/Camco-44560-Olymp ... 477&sr=1-9 mostly because the tongue jack is floppy.

exactly what want, simple but works. I tend to over think some things. Original plan was to make a type of jack using ratchet straps but I decided it is taking me too long to build cause I keep adding things.

they also came in handy when I had the box off my trailer, I set the box on them and was able to work away inside the TD with it nice and solid
