C&S Skillet

Found a real nice 10 " "C&S" skillet for $10.00

You all know how I hate passing up bargains.

It is a bit of a mystery and several feature are very unusual to my thinking.

It is shaped like a saute pan in that the pan is dome shaped with rounded saucer shaped sides rather than intersecting the bottom in a much straighter angle.

The metal finish is very grainy very much like the newer lodge finishes yet the heat ring and drooping handle indicates it is quite old.

I took the time to attempt to locate a C&S foundry on the internet to no avail . I am torn and very much want to return and purchase it but without any info is it really as old as I think. I place it 1880's to early 1930's but it is simply a very shirt sleve guess.

Anyone have any info ?

Well I had a few bucks in my pocket so I did it. I went back and got the C&S skillet and here are the pics.





I have lead a rather sheltered life and have never seen a round shouldered cast iron saute skillet.

Well is it unusual ??????

I have one that I picked up at a swap meet last year in So CA so they made it across the country.
The slightly different shape does make it stand out from the major brands.

Tagged my latest cast iron adventures in this thread............

Well after 2 days of heavy lifting and moving the good junque to my new storage building shop I took Sunday morning off and went junkin'

Total net 2 griswold skillets one 9" one 10" an 8" lodge and a square shouldered oven sans lid













The 2 griswolds wer $10.00 each

The Lodge was $2.00

And the little taiwan pot was $5.00


I thought it was a great haul for $27.00 total

They are now sanded and seasoned a bit and after some cooking experience I may show the glowing results.

UPDATE:

Well the Griswolds went for $20.00 a piece at my moving sale this wekend. I had invested a bit of sanding and a quicky seasoning on the stove top.

I had also bought a nice porta potty for $5.00 at a yard sale last weekend so I sold my less than perfect one at my sale for $10.00 and kept the new pristene one.

So I doubled my money on everything.
