Here are some nice waterproof marine LED floodlights that I installed.


I installed on on each side, upper rear corner, they also fold flat.

I used this Gizmo to run the wire through the trailer wall,
this stuff is mostly all for boats, so I'm sure it will be watertight on the trailer.

I really like your LED flood lights and you roof water heater idea. That would work. You might be able to paint the roof but have black hose for your water. Reflect unwanted heat away from the CT roof but the black hose would just heat the water.
Hmm.... Just think out loud. Not sure thats even worth 2 cents.

My plan would be to have the plastic tubing sit below the roof inside & sandwiched between the silver roof and Denium insulation,
today its colder so I will check the roof temp and report back how hot it gets.

This may be a very interesting experiment , today it was only 60-65 deg ,
BUT The CT silver roof temperature above the 4" denium was always around
120 deg F .... Maybe a small thin radiator to collect the heat, I'm sure this could
Easily heat a small 5 -10 gallon insulated water tank -in 8 hours of heat.
Which will keep the water hot for 2-3 days as I noticed before with only 1" foam
around my exterior plastic tank.

The roof might even get hotter if painted black !!

I may have discovered CCT's don't really need hot water heaters

Does anybody have ideas of how to find a radiator 20" x 30" maybe 1" thick
With small 3/8" - 1/2" tubing ??, this might even work better under glass ??

OTTCT, Howdy;

Check the scrap yards for an air conditioner condenser
from a pick-up. Flush it out really good before you put the water in it.
Freon is an oil so maybe just a few quarts of rubbing alcohol might do the trick.

YEA - I'm not much of one who digs around in junk yards,
Other then the junk in my own yard
Maybe after I'm retired ?
I was thinking more of something new ...... That someone may know about.
I think the idea is great & should be easy to do.

Maybe I'll just throw 150 ft of 3/8 tubing up there when I get a chance
To play around.

I don't know how much piping or water you plan on putting through the roof and I'm sure you have already thought about this but just in case it hasn't crossed your mind please be aware of the weight - it could make it a little top heavy if you put enough up there. That being said, there are a lot of DIY articles out there about solar hot water collectors made of PVC painted black. Maybe some of that could help you a little.

The best way to do this (in my opinion) would be to build a network of PVC pipe to cover the roof where you don't have solar electric panels and plumb it from the PVC to the water heater so if you have a cloudy day the water heater can pick up the slack. Just remember, these pipes (either outside or between the roof and insulation) will be exposed to cold in the winter so be sure to put some bypass valves in so you can drain the water out (or pump antifreeze through) and still use the water heater.

No you guys got me all wrong

I'm talking about the space below the roof , but above the insulation ,
Remember I have a 4" space that is filled with insulation.

Below that would be the finished ceiling

Maybe I'll have to take a picture for you guys

I understand what you are talking about between the roof tin and insulation, I was just saying putting it on top would be the way I would do it if it were me. I think it's a great idea, I hope you try it and let us know the best practices and lessons learned from it.

My concern with putting it inside the cavity is that insulation would be around all but a small part of the tubing and the heat radiation/transfer will be less than if the tube was totally exposed to the sun. I would suggest that you move your temp sensor a fraction away from the hot metal roof so it's not making contact and see what the temp difference is. That will tell you how much more effective your pipe/tube will be if it is making physical contact with the metal roof or if it sags a little how much it will really heat. Just my two cents. I'm proud of what you do for your country!

You know that's a good point that sensor is touching metal
The sensor is in a big plastic case also.

I just wrapped in in a paper towel -

So far the temp appeared to be the same, with the sensor wrapped up, there is
No difference after a few days of testing, the temp hits an easy 135 with 80 deg F temp.
