Outdoor Side Table

I've been looking into ways to create extra counter space for my teardrop build. The original plan was to have a set of drawers that would pull out from the galley in a housing that would have a tabletop on top. That's not going to work at this point because of some other decisions that had to be made. The second idea was to simply purchase a bracket to mount a table to the side of the teardrop. While that's functional, it won't be the most attractive thing when the table isn't attached to the bracket.

The latest idea is to mount the table to the frame with a hitch-like piece welded on the side of the trailer frame. Having the table attach kind of like the same way a bike rack mounts into a hitch on a car.

The problem - I need pictures of this. Yet again, my Google-fu is failing me and I know I've seen picture of this setup before...probably even on this very website. Does anyone have this on their teardrop? Can you post pictures of it here? Please? I need to show the dad/master designer/welder/carpenter what I'm talking about, yet am failing to explain well.

You can still use an extension table without having it attach to the side of your teardrop. Just have it extend off of your galley counter. The bracket/leg kit is very reasonable (about $25 if I remember correctly.) It's very simple to do. I just store mine laying on my galley counter. Will probably put a sheet of non-slip rubber shelf liner under it in transit. I covered mine with the same Formica that is on my counter and it looks very nice.

I assume you have already considered/discarded the table-track approach.

While my table is small and therefore self supporting, I used to have one in my VW Bus that used a folding leg to accommodate a larger table surface.

I made my bumper removable.


I welded hitch tubes on the back of the frame



Then, when the bumper is removed, I can plug a side table in.





We love having the space. I put the support at an angle so we can close the hatch with the table in place.

This is what we have done with receivers mounted at the front and back of the trailer. This makes it easy to move the tables around depending on the terrain. There are more pictures in my gallery. Hope this helps you out.

I have an extra strip left over that I thought about putting on the side for use as a side table but I am hesitant to muck up my sides

I am hesitant to muck up my sides

I didn't want more holes in the side (although my finish is not comparable to his, I still have too many holes there already). So, I wanted to attach a table to the metal frame, also removable. I had some legs left from a cheap computer desk I was throwing away, and I re-purposed them by adding plywood I cut to fit my Coleman stove. I added another surface to hold cooking stuff as well. The two pieces of wood are mounted by thumbscrews to the legs, and then the rear legs drop into the eyebolts I mounted on both rear sides of the trailer (use the side you want to avoid wind, sun, or disturbing others). For added stability, just wrap a bungee around the adjacent pipe-clamp stabilizer and/or attach the (not shown) leg spreader/brace to the front legs. Knockdown/assembly time 5 minutes. Weight < 10 lbs.. Stores inside with the mattress folded over it and the cooler stand (also re-purposed material). If needed, the cook stand can be used away from the trailer; the cooler stand is totally free-standing. Here are photos: Details are in my gallery.

I was going to make a table like Becky and Mark. I even purchased the aluminum bracket/molding.

But laziness set in so instead I purchased one of those fold in half, plastic top, steel leg, 4' x 2' camp tables. It is sturdy but lightweight. The legs can be set to counter height or table height. And I it stows neatly on the bed of the teardrop for travel.
