Getting photogrphed

Postby mombear » Fri Jun 14, 2013 8:04 am

Last weekend I was in Iowa at a COE site and after coming back to the campsite, a COE official photographer came by to take pictures, I don't recall where he came from but got a call to come down and take pictures. So he took pictures of "flower power" said something about putting it on the web site.

Have you ever had that experience? Or have someone in the middle of the night walk around your camper talking about it with another person? This is the first time it has happened to me.
Your failure to prepare, does not make it an emergency for me.

We've not had pictures taken (that we know of) but when we're the only teardrop trailer in the park, it does draw a lot of attention and people show up.

This is the ONE trouble with a teardrop. Sometimes I just want to be left alone. I don't think I've had a day yet where someone doesn't want a tour.

I've thought about hanging a sign....tours $1 as a subtle way of saying leave me alone. If I start getting takers, ill raise the rate until the intended result :)

We were at a teardrop rally a few years ago and got photographed and put in the local newspaper. It's an everyday thing to give a tour or answer questions, we're used to it and don't mind at all. We'll take the teardrop to a car show or cruise- in with our '76 pickup, people will be lined up to look at the trailer, but not that much interest in the truck. First rule of owning a teardrop, keep the bed made at all times as it won't be long before someone comes along and wants to look in.

The trailer always gets more attention than the cars.

The expensive hotrods won't park next to the trailer. No one looks at their 60,000 dollar car.

Happened to me once, the guy was so excited to see a teardrop. His dad used to have one and he asked if he could snap a few picks and use them.
Sure just keep my plate out of it, made sure he only got side shots

When I had my tiny Eriba Puck, it was parked next to a busy road. The storage lot manager said not a week went by without someone asking him about it.

Amd my VWs get photographed all the time. On the road and parked at the house.

Yah, but now Angie won't put up with that ;)

We don't even get a chance to get out of the truck before people have gathered.
The Studebaker has always attracted that kind of attention because it is something "Different", but now with "Miss Piggy" attached to it, it is "Really Different" and attracts even more attention.
We have learned to just be polite, answer any questions, thank them for their interest, and take the attention as a compliment and carry on with what we stopped for.
Always a feel good experience!

PS
We hope to tow Miss Piggy with Sandi's new Hyundai on our next adventure. So we will see what kind of attention the trailer will get without the Stude as a tow vehicle.

My record so far is 17 "showings" on a 3 day Columbus day weekend. It was a state park and there is something about a Woody standing out against all the white campers there...as far as the eye could see there was white, except for one wooden camper that stood out from the crowd from half a camp ground away. And I also insist the bed be made the second we get out because you never know when the first tour will take place.

I don't even have my trailer yet and three professional photographers I know have said they want to shoot it when I get it back to California. And a friend with a public access tv show has asked to be the first to be able to interview me and feature it on her show
