7 Pin connector question

Hello again Woodbutcher.
Did you ever get this wiring question resolved? I have placed my TD build on hold for a couple months, in the meantime I am trying to work out the electrical wiring. So there I was reviewing old posts when I stumbled onto this. I had not considered charging my TD batteries while driving down the road, until now. My Truck and TD are both equipped with Flat 4 Pin connectors. At this point, I assume it is easy enough to change them out, for simplicity. I have tried to visualize how, you could possibly connect a 4-pin to a 7-pin connector, but I just cannot see it . Any chance you might have a picture and simple explanation to share. If you've managed to resolve this issue or changed your connectors.

I am considering changing out the 4-pins on both vehicles to a 5-pin, and use that extra connector/pin for the charging function. What do you think, would this simplify my wiring?

The website guide http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspxhas the extra pin dedicated for surge brakes of sorts. I have no brakes on my trailer. Thanks again

Sure you could do that.

I pity the next person to use the non-standard plug on their unit.
I'd suggest rather that you do as I did and run a separate fused line
to the hitch using the same double plug used on a charger connection.

That would not be misunderstood or cause damage.

There are really two popular connectors the 4 pin and the 7 pin.... Many pickups have a 7 pin as standard and some even have a combo of a 4 pin and 7 pin.... You can always buy a plugin adapter for the 7 pin to a four pin, my Chevy PU actually came with one when new...

In my heat fried brain (103° today) it would make more sense to go with a 7 pin so it would be more compatible with more tow vesicles out there.... When I added wiring to my Jeep which I intend to "off road tow" I put the seven pin connector on it and just wires the 3 lighting pins, the ground and the +12volts for charge while towing...

All wiring was done in accordance with 7 pin connector wiring the is "industry standard".... And used the flat four connecter cut off Jeep end to make a 7 to 4 adapter....

These are real handy to have. They also make them to convert the 7 pin to 6 and 5 pin trailer plugs. So all you need is a standard 7 pin socket on the tow vehicle. I keep a full set in the pickup, never know what I might have to hook up to.

They are Great. I always have one in the glove box.

Thanks. I'll have to look into that. Right now I have 4-pin connectors on both the Tow Vehicle and TD Trailer. No lines for charging batteries.
