Opinions.... I know you have one!

Postby susswood » Fri Jul 05, 2013 1:29 am

Let's start with the obvious... I am new here.

Okay, now that we have it out of the way, I need some opinions on insulation.

I am having my teardrop built. I am not a wimp, I just don't have garage space or power tools to build my own. Anyhow, I was give the option by my builder to insulate or not. It is option that will end up costing somewhat more... The question is: do I need it?

We live in Oregon, we mostly camp in the Summer months, but I am hoping for the tear to extend the camp season. We are planning to sleep 2 adults and 2 small children in the tear for the time being..... kids moving to a tent as they get bigger. As far as ventilation goes, we will have windows on the doors and a fantastic fan. My main concerns are condensation and the noise of rain on the tear roof.

I realize I can opt for ceiling only or walls and ceiling...... OPINIONS WANTED!

Your input is greatly appreciated!

I would certainly want the roof insulated. I don't think you will be sorry.

Warmth may not be an issue, as bodies in a small space produce a lot of heat.
I think it is heat and sound you would be insulating against. You don't want it to heat up like a bread box in the hot sun,
And depending on where you camp, noise may also be a factor to consider.

Anne,

"Do you need it"?

No, you do not.
However, if you have the option, you should.

Less sound will transfer.
The tear will stay warmer in cool weather, and cooler in warm weather.
The resale value will be higher.
Since you're asking, if you don't, you will forever wonder if you made a mistake by not doing so.

No one will ever question "why did you insulate" but they will ask why you didn't...

Waiting for "someday" will leave you on your deathbed wondering why you didn't just rearrange your priorities and enjoy the time you had, instead of waiting for a "better" time to come along...

if you can afford to then I would. It is like buying a car depending on where you live you can get by without air conditioning but it does have its good points. You have to decide if you want a little more comfort. and if you want to extend the camping season then you will be camping in cooler weather then you will appreciate it in the cooler temps.

welcome to the forum,

Okay. Done deal. I am doing it! I have read every thread and searched google to no end.... that info and the sound advice from strangers sealed the deal (literally).

I called my builder and they are putting it in today.

Thanks!
