KC, we found the oyster shells tended to cut our tires... The driveway is common washout over highway mat fabric( plus Styrofoam) ... Been very durable for 13 years now ... no ersta' shells for us ... and they've gotten a bit rare ... since the Oil spill ....

Covering is Fun , but takes so much time ... took all day to do just the back ....

Well, it’s off to the Wal Mart @ 10:00 to pick up the AC ... the weather is supposed to Storm all weekend ... Going to try to get the AC hole cut out and framing mounted inside today ...then we can at least start priming the ribs and all interior woodwork (floor too)... That’s all we can do right now till the windows come in ... Looking forward to getting this thing covered/skinned and painted ...that should go pretty quick .. just all big flat pieces , except the quarter sphere.. Still thinking about that ... Might HAVE to go with the "balloon gores " as this Thick canvas doesn’t stretch at all ... Thankfully the trick part , the back , is already done !!!
Ps. all the canvas overlaps are 4” ... all seams are still facing aft and down... wind won’t lift it , water rolls off...

Here’s a revised drawing of the new AC mount idea ... Thinking of adding a rubber spacer on the bottom for the unit to rest on , maybe to help absorb any potentially noisy AC vibrations

Just like to say again , we’d like to keep the AC framing to a minimum , the unit will only be installed when it’s being used ... The rest of the time it will be stored in the Studio or the House , away from the ants and wasps that plagued the last AC install in TD#1 (the wooden one) No bouncing around down the road , so no need for excess lumber. Just thinking of a close slip-in fit , no fasteners ...
Keeping it out of the weather should help preserve the unit ... for a little longer lifespan ... Thrifty !!!

I was just at Camping World and they had a Starcraft trailer there that actually had a window mount type AC installed factory.

Are you going to paint all that pretty cnc'ed wood? I generally paint all my wood also but if I had all the wood you have I would have to think about sealing it and put some clear on it. Your build looks awesome!

George , what were they thinking ? .... mounted high on the wall, raising the center of gravity , and over a window where it can leak down and rot the window opening and surrounding wall ...a Very expensive fix at an RV dealers ... I really wonder sometimes about RV designers...

Oh well.... Got the AC !!! ... checking it out now .... back with pics in a minute ...

Fish , yep, gonna’ paint it ... the thought of staining and finishing those ribs was just too much work ... Everything gets the same color ... Practical ...

In HVAC design the idea is for the cool air to be spread out across the ceiling and slowly drop (cold air heavier than warm air). That way there is less of the cold air blowing directly on you and the air sets up a natural convection cycle.

So from an HVAC design perspective in a larger space it is spot on. Do you think you will need a fan to move the cold air up in FS, or maybe it is a small enough space that the AC unit fan will be enough? I would bet it is.

Opened it up .... Cute little thing , not too heavy for the old fool to carry about ... needs only a 12.25” H X 16.25”W hole to fit it in ... No problem !!!

And it’s raining ... again !!

KC, I think it will be just fine ... all that insulation ... I’m more afraid of Freezing in my sleep ... especially if the wife sets the thermostat... Can always add a fan if needed , and planned on one anyway ...

Eagle , Thanks !!! What , CRA doesn’t have a Foamie’ section ?...

Marked out the outline of the AC on the wall ... should be a quick framing job ... By measuring the depth of the unit , found we have to keep the inner face of the AC as close to the foam wall as possible , because there’s still 3.5” of foam on the other side , which may block off the side and top vents by about 25% ... although we could make the outer hole bigger by a degree to accommodate the vents ... Then cover the whole thing with a door on the outside ... Possibly as something as simple as a 1/4” plywood plate glued to the foam that the AC slips in , with a bit of framing on the inside ??? Strange , but that might work .. The AC unit still basically sitting on the floor ... or close to it ...

Here’s the idea , if you can make sense of the drawing ... Pushing the unit as far out as I can get it , with the top bracket up against the ply/foam itself ..

Just an idea ... that foam wall is thick .. 3.5” deep .. What do you think ?? Plausible ?
