Questions about Cargo Trailers

Ditto to everything above. If you get a tandem axle, it will likely have a much higher capacity than you need, and will be bouncy. Ask me how I know. I am still glad to have a tandem due to the easier distribution of the load and better stability etc, however I need to remove some leafs from the spring packs.

Also, make for darn sure it has BRAKES!

CT's aren't cheap but if you don't get in a hurry and keep your eyes out for a good used CT, you can get one for a good price. Granted mine is not a top of the line CT but I got for $2k. Excellent condition, less than 1000 miles towed and 8 years old. It should last us for many years.

I think we are leaning toward building a standy teardrop. My hubby wanted a camper that could carry a scooter and/or bicycles so we could add a carrier on the back of the standy. I'm thinking by the time I order a cargo trailer with the added RV door and windows plus add the interior it will be more cost effective to build something from scratch. I'll still be watching all of your creative builds though. There is nothing like a custom camper!

I pondered for years about what cargo trailer to get one that would suit my needs,
I'm handicapped so I need to carry a mobility scooter maybe two.
I wanted the beds to run forward and aft along the sides with an aisle way between for
that late night trip to the porta-potty I hate crawling over someone.
front V nose adds about 2 feet to inside but you lose a little tongue storage area
7 foot dual axel 14 foot long if v nose the inside would be 6' 10" wide 16' long
windows rv door with screen roof vent maybe two if you are going to install
an AC unit. one idea is to add a cargo door on the side so a cheap window
AC unit on tracks can be slid in and out much cheaper than roof AC unit.

PS I pondered to long now I'm not going to be able to build and enjoy anything
R-N-R trailers in Michigan all aluminum you can get it built anyway you want
windows, awning, RV door with screen, extra vent, ramp rear door or opening rear doors
what I'm saying don't wait so long you never get to enjoy it.

I have heard that R and R is a good trailer, 16" on center floors and walls vs. 24" on center. Thicker floor materals etc. All alum frame The old rule you generally get what you pay for is very true. I did try to schedule a factory tour of R and R on my way thru Michigan 3 weeks ago. Got into 3 rivers and called only to find that for some reason they were closed that day after I had called a rep and told them I was planning to stop in for a tour that day a week before. Aggravated that I has traveled out of my way and made time to take a tour, I have not called them back. They only have a very few dealers that sell them around the country. I happen to like the torque flex dexter axle vs the leaf spring ones which seem to bounce more going down the road. I also like the full vee feature, more room inside and cuts into the wind while driving. I have now a 1988 Interstate that is still on the road. Most of the axles are rated at #3500, with just one axle and the weight of the empty trailer you quickly approach the load limit of the trailer. The second axle, though a bit more expensive adds stability and then can handle extra weight in an emergency if you were to have to evacuate your home for some unforseen reason and want to use the trailer to take possessions with you.
