What ??? You don’t like the “Design Element “ ??? Actually my hot wire sheets weren’t all the same thickness.. :o The paddleboarders took the uniform sheets and left me with the C**P... (No good deed goes unpunished eh ! ) So I had to "make do and mend “ ! As you see , the front bottom wrap is considerably Thicker than the sheet above it ... ( My Bad! )
smoothing /tapering it into the other sheet would have been a Lot of sanding , and look kinda’ Dumb!!! But being an Artist , we just changed the “mistake” into a “Design Element" by declaration ... Artist’s prerogative :R ... Looks kinda’ cool , sorta’ train-like ... gonna’ be FUN to cover... :frightened:

SJ, I absolutely have to measure THREE times now ... True !!! :duh: Smiling ... obviously a “Happy Camper” ...

Bogo , seems we studied at the same school ...

Speaking of... I’m not going to have enough canvas... :frightened: :? Have to order several more Today !!! Must have been “The math” again

Oh then yes, I can see a problem with covering that. You might just want to do that in layering sections rather than one sheet that has to adhere? More work in doing it this way, but you don't want that to become an "air pocket" area.

It will be “challenging“ since my heavy canvas won’t stretch much .. Thinking of a “reinforcing strip" over the ledge , then the canvas over that ... 3 piece ... "Tis’ a puzzlement !!! "
Just e-mailed the BIG Duck for another 10 yards (price break) ... maybe a little over what we need , but we can paint on the leftovers... try to get some of the investment back ... 8)

Eagle , I plan on working the front “smile” into the paint job ... a natural separation ... ;)

I'm wondering if you might not cover that ledge very simialr to the way you did your window cut out edges.

After the main sides and top are on, do the bottom piece first wrapping the sides straight back and pie cutting darts for the little angled ledge. Then a strip for the little ledge and part way up (say a few inches). If darting is required, overlap the lower section darts. Then wrap the middle section above that so that it overlaps. By breaking this elephant down into smaller bites, you can concentrate on the trouble area more during each phase, rather than fight it while juggling the bigger areas.

Then, of course, the semi spherical section gores would over lap the middle front section.

Just my thoughts.

KC , Thanks ... was kinda’ thinking along those same lines ... stretching it isn’t going to happen ... too thick to mould around anything ... Your suggestion seems the Best way !!! 8)

Big Duck just notified me the canvas has shipped ... Great service !!! I can’t believe they carry even Thicker canvas, that would be like putting on a flexible plywood ... :frightened:

Whoa !!! here’s a neat trick .... Steam ... :o I had a couple bubbles from this morning’s covering job  , likely non uniform glue application , although I tried... My little hobby iron didn’t do much, until I got a spray bottle with water and sprayed the bubbles ... then ironed over then with the hot iron .... Pssssss!!! bubbles gone , surrounding areas nice and smooth ... I’ll have to remember that one ...

That's looking great GPW! :applause:

I was wondering about the lip as well.
"Design Element" I love it !!

I think my vocabulary for explaining my 'projects' has just been expanded.
Thanks :wine:

My goal for the weekend is to have the rear of my trailer coverd with canvas. (At least)
It's all down hill from there right? :worship:

Warren , it moves along surprisingly quick ... Each step a personal accomplishment !!!

I’m going to have to EAT some words ... (again) ... I said that we weren’t going to use a primer and paint directly on the canvas .... WRONG!!! Tried it , and this thick canvas soaked up the latex like a sponge and it’s not that particularly attractive , and nowhere the Gloss the paint is supposed to be ... :o So . I took the last of my 3 quart , 1 pint ,14 oz. can of Gripper and primed every bit of canvas already on the trailer .. :D

Ps... never got to the grocery ... doin’ Trailer stuff !!! ;)

For the ledge, can you cut a thin strip on the bias (weave running 40 degrees from the edge)? I know it works with fiberglass cloth--not sure how it will work with your thick canvas. Maybe two layers of light canvas strip cut on the bias. If it works, would beat the hell out of having to cut and smooth all the darts.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Saturday !!! :D Well we’re off to the store today ... First to the Home depot for a 5’er of Gripper ... Lots of projects around the house , so lots of use for the Gripper , it won’t go to waste ( and it doesn’t go that far either , our 3qt, 1pt, 14oz. can only covered < 200 sq. ft. ) ...and I thought of trying the Gripper to adhere the rest of the canvas to the top of the trailer and nose... Might as well try it out ... another test ... and we find the T2 takes a little longer to dry Completely in our Intense Humidity ... and the thick canvas (unprimed) just tends to soak up moisture , further retarding the T2 drying underneath ... Now having painted the Gripper over the already laid canvas, we’re hoping the T2 underneath stays dry ... We really appreciated the tack and grab of the T2 when canvassing the vertical walls ...by ourself , but on the top , the Gripper “should” work well , and dry faster...and more completely ... Maybe ??? And we’ll have plenty left to paint over the canvas , now that we Know it’s really needed to prevent the paint from soaking in .....
Then to the WM for (the groceries naturally ) the two trailer tires , and a small porta' potty ... Then a quick swing by the local hardware store , who has a variety of trailer accessories and parts , to look for some “Lift blocks” or something that may serve as such .. Busy day ... :o

Good news the extra canvas will be in Tuesday , so we can finish that up ... It will be so nice to get "dried in" , and not have to fool with that Huge tarp anymore ... sorta’ a PIA pulling it over the trailer and removing every time ... :duh:

W’, no silver , although that would be really Old school vintage retro ... Painting it to match the house , because I have paint left over (enough i hope ) from the recent house painting ... Can’t let that go to waste (Thrifty) .. and I can always paint it another color later , possibly silver...

Ton’, this canvas doesn’t wanna’ stretch in any direction :o , but I thought fiberglass tape might conform , then cover over that ... all glued down with the gripper .. Still considering the options ...

KC ,. Hope I get it finished soon , I need a vacation from my Hobby ... :R ...

On a Thrifty note: While I’m out , may run by the local Thrift store too (it’s on the way) ... they always have some cool retro “bowling shirts” and Guyaberas , a lot with the tags still on them :o , for ~4 bucks ... Might as well look Sharp with the new camper and all ... and we can wear them on band gigs ... 8)

Further thinking (more Coffee) ... When doing the inside skinning with the chipboard , we can just paint the whole back of the board with Gripper (we’ll have a lot of it) , stick it up against the foam , and later gripper the inside face too ... That should do a great job of waterproofing the chipboard , making a durable and long lasting inner skin ... or a good base for future “decoration” ...
