Well the shelf is in. contact adhesive is not fun. with that said i took some vinyl wrapped it about one inch over the cherry then folded the rest onto the plywood. it didnt go as planned and i had to peal it back and start over on the fold and slowly work my way to the back. crimped some terminal rings and screwed those into a barrier strip from radio shack. put the light back on and attached it to the ceiling. wired it up to the power lines and it works. i need to find a way to anchor the sides to the wall and to support the back edge. also i need to make a front panel to cover it. thinking cherry with black poplar trim held in place with magnets. i am happy with it.

Yep! Contact cement is a lot of fun to work with. The stuff I've used you better get it right the first time cause it's not coming off again. That shelf looks good . As for attaching it to the wall, it depends on the wall. If it's solid enough to drive screws in you could try small corner brackets or pocket screws.

something that came to me with the angle of the wall is i could use some small decrotive door hinges. do a couple in the middle and a couple at each end.


6/08 Update. Well got teh hinges and put a set at the ends and one in the middle . The vinyl did seperate on teh underneath and i pushed it back up but i fear i am going to have to find another solution. one positive side. the lights are now within reach and will not hit my head when getting up. i tested.

Ok going camping over the 4th and I hate certain aspect of my galley and the hodgepodge of fixes are not working for me. SO going to make a few changes.

Going to move my 120V outlet. going to remove the shelf I just put in. take out the 12 volt socket.
I hate how my upper cabinet doesnt hold the pans flat that everything has to be angled. i thought about bumping it out but the LED lights would have to be move as well as the switch.
So what i am thinking is building a cabinet on top of the counter i will do a better job putting the 120 and 12 volt out there with a better placement. It will be on the far right and go to the left where the countertop gets wider. height will be from the tile to the lower cabinet. Put some shelves on the side.

Well I did some demolition and removed teh shelf i didnt like and started to fit the new cabinet side. using 1/2 inch plywood. I also decided i didnt like how tough getting the stove in and out and so i am going to convert that to a drawer and started working on that. the utensil storage also didnt fit well into the upper cabinets so i figure this will take care of it. i am not doing any slides i dont have the space so will figure something out. What i hated about the shelf i put in that it covered the 120 outlet. i want to put the outlet on the new cabinet wall but i dont want to hide it with the shelf. maybe on the end facing out use it for support of the shelf at the end. will brainstorm more

Well the drawer is done. was going to do a single slide but i just could wrap my head around how i was going to do it. so while watching an episode of Woodsmith Shop they were doing pocket screws they just said put side runners and a kickplate and a back stop and I am like YESSSSSSS! SO that is what i did. added some cherry for the face and some black spray paint and i call it good.

THe new pots and pans cabinet is coming along and while its a snug fit the lower cabinet will hold the large pot. protected the new electrical and i couldnt find the old electrical box but in my search i found an old remodel box i didnt use so why not.

On another failure the vinyl on the new interior shelf is not sticking. i may have to staple.

A little more done on the pots and pans cabinet. got teh 120 volt done, Gremlin got the shelf painted. Should be able to start on the face frame tomorrow. I have found that I have run out of big pieces of the Cherry. So I do not know what I am going to do for a door. Maybe cargo net temporarily.

Ok the face frame and door were manufactured today and painted. That is the last of the big pieces of cherry. wired teh 12volt socket now that i had the right connector. tomorrow the door and face frame goto together and the 12 wired into the fuse block.



Update. Happy Fourth of July. With a camping trip coming up this sunday I completed teh pots and pans cabinet. Wired teh 12 volt to the fuse block and worked fine. Attached the door to the face frame. well teh face frame got racked when installing and now there is a 3/8th inch gap. oh well such is life. plus all my careful planning to make sure teh grain of the cherry went the correct way didnt work. i messed up on which side was the long side. oh well. loaded it with pots and pans and filled the drawer and now so much more space in the upper cabinet. I am liking it. however i need to go buy some ureathane cause the new drawer and door look pale compared to the rest of the cherry.

Kind of a trip report. Well i took the family out camping and went up to Little Mill Campground up American Fork Canyon. Well it took us a couple of camping spots but we found teh right one and got all set up and then it rained. Well for 2 hours you have the family and 3 dogs inside the trailer. not comfotable but dry. couldnt open teh roof vent cause of the rain and the windows would let some rain in. so need to figure out gutters now and i can now see why pop up canopy are popular. I hate my rear hatch with it open the rain came right through the gap, which i knew it would but right into the lower cabinets. the tables also got a good soaking. i need to redo my tables, they are way to big. well the sun came out and other than a few sprinkles the camping trip went well. the road was unusually quiet too quiet. didnt really notice till the news helicopter flying up the canyon. WTF. well turns out all teh rain caused a mudslide and trapped hundreds of people. so some things to figure out on the trailer and what we can unpack and what we need to add. Where did the salt and pepper shakers go. Also forgot one of the dinners we were taking good thing we brought extra of hot dogs.

Forrest, in your other thread, you said you are going to use sport nylon. I'm guessing that you haven't decided yet.

Sorry to hear about the water in your galley. If you haven't already done it, open up the hatch and stick a fan in there to help dry it out and minimize the damage.

i am going with sport nylon and bought 5 yards today. now just figuring out the hardware crowsnest i am looking at very in depth i like the tent pole frames. i looked at the drip rail with the bilt in awning slot. I also looked at woodbutchers bimini setup. I want it to look nice and not redneck (no offense to redneck, I am one) easy to set up and attached to the trailer incase we have to move teh trailer.

I personally like an awning rail right on the camper. Nice and snug. Depends on your height though. If you use a rail, remember to push the awning into the slot. Not pull it.

You mentioned this and to be honest I have not seen it. I did see some profile of a drip rail that had a awning channel on the bottom. so now it has me thinking of going this route instead of teh snaps. I may go and see if the local trailer supply has some to look at. they did have so many other keder track options.

Lil guy has the rubber J channel with the adhesive stuck to it. and then regular j channel. i did see a keder i liked that went onto of the roof right at the edge. So many choices.
