GPW I know you are the king of thrifty, I was wondering why you didn't go with super thrifty Wiley windows instead of not so thrifty RV windows? they are just as or possibly more waterproof and the "glass" is for sale at any hardware store. Not to mention they give you full airflow unlike the normal RV sliding window.

"Wiley windows “ .... Who Dat' ??? Sorry I never heard of those ... :o

Stroke of Luck .... I was able to sell my Jimi Hendrix guitar , so now have a nice infusion of Cash into the FS build ... Not that’s any reason to spend foolishly ...

The rest of the canvas is due in today ...enough to finish the job ... But it’s supposed to RAIN today (a lot) ... again ... another setback ... :NC We’ll do what we can indoors ... there’s the door to finish ...

We really have to find an enclosed garage, barn , shed, whatever to finish this covering job soon ... With all the rain , humidity and condensation , now I’m fighting moisture in the trailer .. and saw a small formation of mold ... Must attend to that Quickly ... :frightened: Once we’re covered , this will no longer be a problem ...

Here’s what we’ve been doing to keep the moisture under control, running the fan inside as much as we can ... not at night or during a rain ... It helps , but we’d rather not have the dampness in the first place...

Nor I. Just found some info here: viewtopic.php?t=51721&p=953331
Looks interesting though I don't see it offering much ventilation, at least not as much as I would often want. Not sure I like the intrusion into the living space either. It could certainly have it's place though & I like the general simplicity of it's operation.

For anyone who hates following link trails as much as I do, "Wiley windows" are basically an awning window upside down and inside out.
Image
Right-click on the pic and "View Image Info" (Firefox) if you want to link to the album.

Given the typical distance between the window opening and the ceiling of a TD, it seems to me that you would be trying to force the warm, moisture-laden inside air down from the ceiling to exhaust it.
It also looks like the bottom corner is looking for an excuse to hold water along the hinge line.
JMHO, but I think an awning window or floor vent combined with a roof hatch would provide a much better flow. I haven't slept in a TD but, from what others have said, exhausting the warm wet air is the key to a comfortable interior.

Not trying to sound like a grump, but it seems like a solution in search of a problem.

That would Never fly with Her Worship ....

It would seem that the to accomplish good ventilation , you need a vent in the top where the warm air can exit (heat rises) , and a lower vent(s) where cool air could enter to replace the warm air going out the top ... we plan to have a couple screened floor vents ...just small holes at the front and back of the trailer on the floor ...with covers for traveling and adjusting the airflow ... I believe we discussed this all at great length much earlier ... Even with the AC running , there should be some way of ventilating the trailer cabin , and a way to adjust that so you don’t lose all the heavier cold air ... ;)

Despite the claim of the Weather geniuses , predicting 80% chance of rain , it’s yet to rain a drop ... :R

The extra canvas is in .... back to the cutting table ... :D

Now then .... despite the warnings of the weather service , we went ahead and added a top panel to the trailer .... using the Gripper ... Seems to work OK .... we’ll see how it dries ... which BTW is pretty quick in this heat ... I did find a few “bubbles” :o that I brushed some Gripper over and rubbed in with my hand (a mess) , that seems to have taken care of those little annoyances... gripper works pretty good so far ....
Tomorrow is supposed to be “mostly sunny “ , so we’ll get a chance to cover the other side top and then start on the nose ...
Note , Mr.Thrifty chose not to go rent scaffolds , and used the shaky ladders instead .... Stupid eh !!! :duh:

Just checked , the Gripper is dry , or feels so .... everything stuck fast ... no bubbles ... so we covered it up with the tarp and called it a day ...

ps. While waiting around this morning for the rain , I painted the final color paint on the door .... It went on MUCH Nicer on the primed canvas than it did on the unprimed canvas... ;)

Wobbly - I tend to agree - let windows be fixed, then vents at bottom and top for airflow.

the wiley window doesn't hold the water in the lip at the bottom, that lip has drain holes at the front and back that drain the water back out to the outside.
The windows were designed for sailboats, one guy who had them on his boat sailed around the world with them, he never had a leak even from rouge waves or wakes. In the harbor you take the glass out completely and store it somewhere else, since your trailer won't be facing rouge waves or wakes (wait I take that back you do live in a flood prone area  ) .... 99% of trailers won't face waves or wakes, unless you are ridding out a hurricane no precip should come in with the glass removed that the drain channel can't deal with.
I believe this picture would be more instructive, http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... CFMQ9QEwBQ
the name "wiley window", AFAIK was given to them by Phil Bolger a man who had a huge influence on the plywood epoxy DIY home built boat building world, he owned a boat designed by a man name Wiley. Since no one else has claimed the design the name has stuck.
I'm putting them on my TD door right now, I'm going to use plain old plexiglass for the glass with the option of changing the glass for a sheet of plywood when I want the light blocked/privacy. with an "eyebrow" over the window, a window screen bedded into the opeing, and a slightly larger drip tray, I don't think I'll really need the glass to keep out rain that often, probably only put it in for towing. I already have curtains for privacy anyway.

I also plan on making them the largest size the door allows, possibly with more than one window so that my doors will almost be screen doors. I figure the 4" inches inside of each door I'll loose is space I already don't really use anyway. The other size issue will be to work with exsisting sizes at HD so If I ever need another panel it will be there with no cutting needed.

LO’ , Cool homemade scaffold ... 8) We’ve decided to just tuff' it out and get this covering finished !!! The sooner I get this covered , the Better it will be ... and the weather doesn’t seem to be cooperating , so we’ll just have to work around the rainstorms... Gotta’ “Get it DONE” ... ;)

Fine Homebuilding , what a great magazine , although a bit pricy (and I see their website is not free either  ) ... I did get a lot of good ideas from that magazine when I was designing my house some 15 years ago ..

This covering thing is a bit Tricky with one person :o ...I’d suggest you get a helper when attempting this ... the bigger the trailer , the more the need for assistance ... Not a hard job for a helper , just hold one end of the fabric while we stretch , pull and smooth the other end ... Just sayin’ ...

Well, it’s not raining ... yet  So I snuck out early and installed that other top panel ... And actually got it a little straighter than the other one...

Finding as the Gripper sets up it (naturally) becomes more tacky and we have to go back and smooth the edges for the best adhesion ... just a little watchful rubbing after the fact ... ;)

Ps. Thought working in the cooler part of the day (81F) would be less sweaty ... But I’m already totally Soaked and sitting in front of the fan to dry/cool off... :fan:
