I just read the entire build thread and it took me longer to read it than it took you to build it haha!!

I think with four days at your disposal you will make it even cooler! Very nice build and I think the red truck matches the trailer frame and window molding (although I prefer the farmy truck myself too )

The legal stuff is done. Got it inspected this afternoon. This morning I caulked what needed caulking, tar'd what needed taring etc. Little stuff. Tomorrow I work with my wife gardening to get that job done . Then prepare to CAMP!

I understand that New York state is one of the few states that requires that the trailer weight be under 1000 pounds unless you have brakes. Did you have to weigh-in to get approval? If so, how much does it weigh?

I did not have to have it weighed. I have a utility trailer with a bolt on box. But I am positive it is under 1000 lbs. But over 900

We were pulling it with a Sonoma with a 4 cyl that can barely get out of it' own way empty and it did ok.

Couple o' dumb questions on Vardos:

I see this one's roof is EDPM and it appears though it's "glued" down. On other vardos with corrugated roofing, how do you attach it so it doesn't just blow off at highway speeds or have water blown inside?


It appears the bed front is the standard arrangement for a vardo. This seems to take up a lot of space. Has anyone ever done anything like put the bed on a pivot point so that it will swing up? This would be sort of like a murphy bed but pivoting head to foot instead of side to side??

yes this roof is glued down and also attached with moldings on all sides. I thought about the corrogated roofing and decided against it for what you just asked. At highway speeds in the rain there is no way to stop rain from going under the roofing.

I'm sure you could do a murphy bed. For our purposes this is perfect and the space under the bed is all storage. No wasted space. When we camp we don't hang out in a camper. We sleep in it and ride out thunder storms. Otherwise we are outside. Our Vardo is our bedroom on wheels.

mostly loaded for our 1st trip tomorrow. Put in the mattress. My wife came home the other day with a memory foam topper, 3 inches thick. Tested it out. Feels almost exactly like our Temperpedic we normally sleep on. Going to be comfy.
