new aluminum 7x16

Anyone want a 1 year old 6x12V ct conversion?
We got tired of having to move out the bike to sleep, and after a 6 wk trip in the little box, we decided to go bigger. I ordered an all aluminum 7x16 from the mfg. RNR Trailers in Three Rivers, MI. <http://www.rnrtrailers.com/ >
The Force model comes with ramp, screwless exterior, and a 3 foot bullet nose. I had them add a alum. step ($75), a screen door ($120) and a 18" x 30" baggage door ($100)in each side of the nose. Still under $5600 w/tax. We got a $100 credit for no interior. Yes, you can do that! The aluminum frame has a much stronger design.
We're still do not have a layout in mind. The front baggage doors should enable a full width 24" high storage area under a closet/storage unit built into the nose. We had the side door moved close to the wheels so most of the bed will be ahead of the door.



While I was waiting for them to build it, I built the bed frames from aluminum angle bolted than alumawelded.

I picked it up last thursday. It tows like a dream behind our hemi Durango.

First layer of insulation, 1" on sides and 2" in ceiling.

We got a shakedown trip coming up so I started adding the second layer to keep first layer from falling out during travel.

someone is putting in a second layer of insulation - to prevent the thermal bridging

Thermal Bridging ???? I did not know what that was so I went to Wikipedia (I know, not always the best source of info) and got this:

"A thermal bridge, also called a cold bridge,[1] is a fundamental of heat transfer where a penetration of the insulation layer by a highly conductive or noninsulating material takes place in the separation between the interior (or conditioned space) and exterior environments of a building assembly (also known as the building enclosure, building envelope, or thermal envelope).[2]
Thermal bridging is created when materials that are poor thermal insulators come into contact, allowing heat to flow through the path of least thermal resistance (R-value; or a material's effectiveness in resisting the conduction of heat) created, although nearby layers of material separated by airspace allow little heat transfer.[3]
Insulation around a bridge is of little help in preventing heat loss or gain due to thermal bridging; the bridging has to be eliminated, rebuilt with a reduced cross-section or with materials that have better insulating properties, or with a section of material with low thermal conductivity installed between metal components to retard the passage of heat through a wall or window assembly, called a thermal break."

I take this away from the description --that even if you insulate between the metal posts , cold and heat will radiant thru them and undermine one's insulating work.

Maybe this is why I might think of a 7x12 unit instead of a 6x12 so I can double insulate and still have enough width in the trailer for what I want to use it for.

I learned about thermal bridging soon after insulating my trailer and having the walls back up and already carpeted. It was no problem figuring out where each metal stud was located just from feeling the heat coming through the 3/8 plywood. Not a problem now with my 13.5k roof A/C unit but when I was trying to use my original 12.5k portable it could not begin to keep up because of this. I have not noticed this problem in reverse in cold weather though. A small 1500 watt electric heater will keep my trailer toasty warm down into the 20's and usually just running on low.

My wife asked why I was putting more insulation on when she touched the aluminum stud and quickly removed her hand. It was only 78 but that side was in full sunlight. I got some plastic xmas tree fasteners on order to bond the outer layers. I don't want a corrosion problem with screws in aluminum.
