According to spec sheet that heater draws 29 amps (3500 w.) at 110 volts.... Makes it a little impractical for most trailer applications as it comes pretty close maxing out a lot of shore power (30A.) outlets....

Almost 3/4 of the Hoosier chapter has equipted themselves with 32 cup coffee makers that act as our water heaters. I have picked them up from anywhere from$3.00 to $10.00 at yard sales and goodwill stores. Here is a bit of a thread discussing this......

We use an electric kettle when we are plugged in. You can pick one up at Wally World for about $12. It heats about 12 cups to boiling temp in about 2 mins. Pour into your dish bin with some cold water and dish soap and your great to go, you will have dishes done before the next camper even has their water heated up.

We also got an old coffee pot, and while it heats more water at a time (and keeps it hot) we found the electric kettle more efficient and more of an on-demand type of solution.

I use pine cones and lightered knots. I got a 2gallon cowboy coffee pot that hangs over the fire all the time. I have enough hot water to do the supper dishes and take a shower when mixed into my little holding tank. Ive used it over the last several months and love the set up. I think its the only thing I havent modified on my camper in two years.

I've thought about hot water quite a bit. I like the idea of an outdoor hose/shower head for cleaning dishes in a tub, rinsing off feet, etc.

To get hot water without the weight of an extra tank, high amperage electric heater, or any other means that might prove inconvenient, it may work to use an instant propane water heater like this:

I've also thought about using a hot water heater like that with a re-purposed heater core to function as a camper heater as well. But that's probably getting a bit crazy. An electric or catalytic propane heater would be much more practical.

it is a tankless water heater, fueled by propane, and powered by two D batteries.
I had a similar one in my house in ME, it used 110V power but drew less than 2 amps, it was made by (Rheem). Some of them are able to be powered by 12 V or even don't use any power, the water flowing through them generates the power needed to operate.
If you look at many off road camping, jeep, or 4 wheel drive sites you will see many people have a 12V water pump being powered by the TV engine or battery and one of these water heaters to allow showering in the middle of no where.
Probabley a better set up than my Zodi http://www.walmart.com/ip/4698021?wmlsp ... 90&veh=sem that I got on clearance a few years ago.

I was referring to the pic of the PVC pipe in front of the propane tank. For some reason there is no text with the post when viewing on tap talk app. I happened to view the thread through my regular browser and see the text now. Wierd!

We use a Artisan ( think that is how it is spelled) 2 1/2 gal tank less I ordered from Lowes.
