Hey gang!

I'm back at it. I spent the day working on the galley area. I managed to build all four cabinet doors, the silverware drawer, the slider for the ice chest and I managed to skin the table.

Took some photos on my phone. Trying to upload them now.

Hey Shaun,

Thanks for the kind words. I managed to get the 95% of the interior done today. I just need to figure out how to laminate the the trim boards around the uprights of the 'head board'. Oh, and the interior of the doors. I found some pretty cool vintage door handles. $30.00 for the whole lot. Once they come in, I'll clean them up and mount them to the doors and drawers. I think they will look okay with the red accents on the exterior. I also found some Red Melmac dishes.

I think I'll find a KOA and take the trailer out for a few days. I think I'll take the trailer in next week to get painted. I need it back before the end of the month for another camping trip.

It feels really good to get it this far. I mean, it's not as plush as the Atma Travelair or the really beautiful Silver Beetle, but it's mine. :)

I can't wait to build another one. I think I'll build me a 5 wide next time.

Thanks or checking in,
Ted

Postby TRP » Tue Aug 13, 2013 11:12 am

Aaannd... she's all torn down and off to the body shop for paint!

I took her apart this weekend and took her to the paint shop last night. I sent the door windows out to get soda blasted and polished. Waiting for an estimate now.

110971 110972 110973 110974

Once she returns from the paint shop, I'll put the final polish on the rest of the body and then turn my attention back to the cabinet doors. I'm not really proud/happy with the way they turned out. The cherry wood border around the doors is kind of overpowering. I'm thinking I like what I did with the interior overhead cabinet doors more than the others.

Thanks for checking in!

Re: 1955 Benroy - Rebuild (08/18/2013 - In the paint booth!)

Postby TRP » Sun Aug 18, 2013 9:30 pm

I spent a few hours yesterday and 10+ hours today getting the trailer ready for the paint booth. Being my first time laying out graphics, the stripes too a long time to lay out. I'm glad the scheme was pretty simple. Believe it or not, laying out straight lines is hard. A huge thank you to Steve for providing those excellent photos over a year ago!

Here are a few shots of the progress I made this weekend. If everything goes well, it will be painted tomorrow.

I managed to head down to the paint booth and drag the ole girl out. She came out pretty darn good, if I don't say so myself. Not perfect, but I'm not complaining. :)

Next step will be cleaning things up and getting the trailer ready for reassembly. I snapped a few quick photos after I got it all back in the garage. Somehow I managed to place it in the worst possible spot for photos. :?

I really need to drag it out of the garage and get some respectable shots of the progress. For now these crappy phone shots will have to do.

Oh yeah, something about the color red (Torch Red/Redline Red) does not play well with the CCD of my cel phone camera. It makes the color look all crazy. Sorry about that, I'll get some new photos tonight with the 'big' camera.

Thanks for checking in,
Ted

Okay! I managed to get the fenders back on and cleaned up the sides a tiny bit.

I will work on cleaning up the window frames this weekend. They really look horrible now that the rest of the trailer is cleaned up. I will also work on wrapping up the interior of the doors. OH! I also took some photos of the new 426A and stand that I picked up. It looks like it may have been used only a handful of times. Quite the score!

Nice job...it appears that you got the whole "taping" thing down for paint. Straight lines aren't all that easy at times. Very well done! Doug

Hello Gang,

Thank you all for your kind words. It's been a lot of fun to bring this original trailer back from the brinks of destruction.

I will be wrapping up the galley soon and then I think I'm going to put this one up for sale.

It's been a fun journey, but we need something bigger for my family.

Thanks again,
Ted
