Dumb marinco 30 amp inlet question

I was going to buy one of these for my TT for power inlet.

It look like it will fit a standard power cord or an adapter like these. It's nothing special because it's locking...???? That will work with a locking cord right, but it's ok for a standard cord also? Anyone know?

I am not sure, I think the 30 amp twist lock plug has special prongs. A standard extension cord will not fit. You will need a 30 amp to standard adapter. Or you need the conversion kit for the Marine co inlet to make it standard. Anyway i think this is a link to the right adapter on amazon.

I have just been having a difficult time finding a 30 amp standard inlet that fits a standard 30 amp extension. Anyone got a link to a "standard" 30 amp inlet box? Maybe I should hardware it and make an access panel. Jeez I thought this would have been the easy part of the build.

You need to buy the mating connector for the twist lock connector, then attach it to a standard 30A RV shore power cord that has a 3-pin crows foot plug on it.

I'm not convinced of the usefulness of twist lock connectors in that application. I've never had a connector come loose, and how much of a disaster is it if it does come loose?

The big advantage is that the connection is relatively water proof neat and clean. The advantage of having a detachable cord that is not stuffed inside, is that it can be left home which is what we did on the trip North of Lake Superior when we relied on solar.

The 30-amp 'trailer' plug is totally different from a 30-amp 'twist lock' plug/receptacle, & I don't know of any adapter that'll work with both?? Unless you really need 30 amp service, a standard Leviton 15-amp inlet will work fine with any standard extension cord, & adapters for the cord to fit 30/50amp power pedestals are pretty inexpensive. I installed a Leviton (under $10) 15-amp inlet on my TD just outside the converter location when I built my TD in 2006. Sealed behind it with butyl tape & installed a small homemade 'rain diverter' above it. Have never had a problem with moisture or being disconnected in 7yrs & more'n 20K miles of use...

Thanks for the info all. I am gonna go with a straight wired 25' 30 amp cord and make a way to close the hatch while it is plugged in.

I used that same Marinco 30 amp inlet receptacle when I built my trailer. I did not know when I purchased it that it is not used in the RV industry...I think it is mostly for boats. The female end of the RV cord I bought would not plug into it, so I went to a local electrician and got the necessary connector, cut the end off the RV cord, and attached the new connector. It works great for me even though it may not be as convenient as a cord you just pull out through a hole and plug in.

Ukele get a cord inlet like on a pop up, my pop up has a door that opens, you pull the cord out and when you shut the lid a piece pushes up so it leaves a slot for the cord.
