Anyone know how to do a drop down /false front for a drawer slider? I need to drop a false drawer front, and pull out a flat drawer with a stove on it.

I've had to do that for several small computer desks. Just put a piano hinge along the bottom of the drawer and back of drawer front. Make sure the front edge of the drawer bottom is hardwood and at least 1/2" thick. Then put a push type latch on the top of the drawer front. It's really easy to do.

How would I do that to leave the "drawer front" at the face-frame, with the "drawer" passing over it!

You can't! It has to be attached to the drawer and slide out with it. Sorry, I don't have a scanner, so I can't draw you a picture. And I couldn't begin to draw it with a computer program.

Wait a minute, Steve. I think you might be able to incorporate a Blum hinge..........you know, like they use on face-frameless cabinets. Depending on how much room you have, you might try that. Many different styles of those............available through Rocklers catalog.

Sounds like the job for some kind of euro hinge. Maybe one for an inset door so that it will pull away from the face frame.

While in the shop today, I played around with some scrap and a bit of piano hinge...I think it will work!





The longer section represents the rail, just below the slide-out stove drawer.
I'll be working out the real set-up, tomorrow.

Steve, Do you have one of those false drawer fronts under your sink that folds down to hold your drain plug and sponge? The only thing that keeps it from dropping down is the plastic piece that holds you sponge and stopper. Those hinges might work.

If you don't mind the drawer face being split, you could use a bin hinge for the top portion of the face (this opens--but not all the way, and locks in place) or your piano hinge if you need more clearance to get the stove out. The bottom part of the face would be attached to the drawer bottom.

Splitting the drawer face will allow the top part to be dropped down once the stove is pulled out so that you don't have to go chasing the errant can of green beans that gets knocked into the cabinet. This assumes that your drawer has short sides for accessability to the stove.
