First Teardrop: UK Durham

Postby cgill101 » Tue Sep 03, 2013 5:09 pm

So I started my teardrop in June and have made steady progress over the summer, making full use of your great forum for tips. I thought it was time to share some of my pics and get some input :D

I plan on putting a window in on the front wall, framing is in but window hasn't arrived yet. Finish will be aluminium on roof/hath and ABS (plastic) UV rated in black for sides, wheel arches are at the shop being sprayed candy red.

CG,

Just for interest the Tear in the picture is clad with prepainted steel glued to the ply.
The steel and paint has a guarantee of 15 years against corrosion and paint peeling.

Take it easy.

I like the finish you've got on yours, the aluminum is very dear here in the UK and I think the plastic will be pretty durable £20 a sheet vs about £60 for aluminum

Thanks grantstew8

Plastic is from here: http://www.plasticstockist.com/ABS-Sheet.aspx

I've been discussing it with some experts who have said it is really good UV resistance and some nice finishes available, would love the carbon fibre effect but would blow the budget!! :D

ABS does have good UV resiliency, a lot of ATV fenders etc are ABS, and the Pontiac Fiero body was ABS.
Having said that I have read somewhere on here about people having issues with the expansion and contraction being quite significant.
Having worked with ABS quite a bit in the past it was the first thing I thought of when I thought durable, easy to work skin.
I will be interested in finding out how this turns out, nice job by the way :)

CG, Thanks for the link.

I've taken a look at the pricing it looks pretty good.
Have a look at this Aluminium site the pricing is only a little more they said it was about £40 for delivery.

I still can't afford either at the moment so I'm going with an fibreglass here and there, epoxy with a solid colour.

Your build looks great! Congrats. :applause:
