Anybody know anything about Fold N Roll trailers

Postby Laredo » Mon Sep 02, 2013 9:35 pm

by the Aristocrat makers? I think there's a standy design in there, that might go down the road more aerodynamically ...

Yes there is a somewhat more streamlined one in that it's height is reduced, otherwise it's boxy. Think long tall tent pop up when down. I remember seeing one a few years ago, but that is it. Basically a top that lifts up on some folding legs, then the side walls fold up. Others have some similar. There is even a current maker of a lift top that the top lifts up on similarly hinged legs, but the side walls are fixed.

Here is a bit on them.

Thanks. I think I might be hoping for patent drawings or similar images.

There is one camping at Morro Bay State park as I write this. Morro Bay, CA
Do you want me to ask them anything?

You take a look in my gallery you will find more pictures, My fascination is with the front tires on the hitch make from air plane tires. This will allow even my carolla to pull it. They usually sell them for more then i can afford but there were only a small amount made.

The one at the park is the 2nd one I have ever seen and it may be the same guy. He preforms at the PAC and is a professional musician.

I was planning on going back tomorrow and shoot some shots.
Image the park is in the lower right hand corner, the green area!
where as Los Osos, Image the rock is a little smaller
Our house is off to the left a block for the greenery.

This is for a "Folding [Pickup] Camper", not the Fold-N-Roll,
but the lifting top looks to be the same type/set-up:

Interesting Le Roy Patnode lived in Aptos, CA and patent on the camper for a truck in 1974. Irv Perch made the Fold n Roll 1994, He lived in Gilroy, ca which is about 10 miles to the east of Aptos, ca it was 20 years later about the time that patent ran out.

Oh and I think I found the pat. for trailer manor too.

I talked with the owner of the Fold n Roll that I talked about earlier.
They knew the inventor/creator/builder of the Fold n Roll, Aristocrat, and several other

I already knew that Irv Perch is found in the RV/MH Hall of Fame Members.
One quote said about him:
Perch will be remembered as an innovator, a builder, an entrepreneur and as a founding father of the RV Industry.

http://www.rvbusiness.com/2008/05/perch ... y-pioneer/

The Fold n Roll truck camper found above is similar in design to the fold n roll and the earlier ones did open with springs and the top was pushed up by hand. The Fold n Roll that these people had was about #76 of less then 100 made and it is raised with hydraulics that lifted the top which worked great for these folks who have had it for years and have gotten up in years where a manual top might not work well as one got older. But the hydraulics made it heavier.

This trailer had the 3 wheel with many problems and Irv was so fainated with the idea. He saw the The Long, Long Trailer (2006) and he bought the trailer that was in that movie!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxx4ijz3aig
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8GReeca704

In the movie you can see the 3rd wheel only once in these clips. Doug H. made a miniture of it for the trailer races at the IRG.

Pictures will be in my next entry

more photo's of this trailer the interesting part was that the back door did not go all the way up and when these folks were looking at it they told him they could not bend down each time they entered. The trailer they have was built for them and they may have helped in making it better for everyone.
Mr. Theimann who is the gentleman I talked with and his wife did computers and helped Irv figure out the registration numbers for the trailers with a formula

Frank and his wife live in northern california in the bay area.
I have their email if any one has any questions.

Ron

The front wheel worked like a pendulum and would go back and forth as you turned that caused it to go through to many tires, Airplane tires. Irv had put in stability rods which helped but in time it was found that they were needed to help more in turning. The owner said that they should have been on independent suspension. And when it went down the road before the last fix it would shimmy make it a little unstable, as I understood it.

also I found shot in this of the 3rd wheel That Lucy had.

here are pictures and some story
112025here is the fleet that Irv Perch made along with the Aristocrat.
The Fold n Roll began in 1994 this unit was made in 112026 the first ones were with a push up top. This one had hydraulics 112028 which pushed the lift bars up 112024
Not all came with the front wheels from what I remember reading but the one I saw did 112027 the two wheel that were found below the tung area 112030 were two airplane wheels. Frank said they would swing right or left when you turned like a pendulum 112029

112030 to control this shimmy problem Irv added stabilizer bars in front of the wheels 112035 which was attached to the pin. As you turn the corner the wheel would follow.

It had an AC that is inside and near the floor outside is a door that must be open to operate the ac and keep it from over heating 112031.
It had a toilet with an outside pull out and carry portapodi liquid carrier 112033
The water tank was not to thought out and the overflow line was to high so when they turn a corner it would flow out. 112032 So Frank had to put a plug into the hole to control that problem.
The Fold n Roll came with 2 batteries with a switcher 112034

I have some inside shots which I will show later.

He will closing up the trailer on monday but I will be at work and will miss that.
