COMMENTS PLEASE (Positive Or Negative)

I'm considering buying these doors on Ebay, but wonder if anyone on here has them and maybe has a comment about them. I just want to get the doors on and don't really have time to build them and have heard they can be a challenge to seal up.

Great doors. Many of us use the factory style doors because its easy. Not cheap, but easy. And functional. And as long as you arent going for a retro look, they're quite nice looking.

That seller on ebay (Vintek) is Frank at Vintage Technologies Teardrop Parts. Great guy to deal with! You can order on ebay, or check out his site for a bunch of goodies. If you have any questions, give him a call.

I actually prefer a vintage look, and that's what actually drew me to Teardrop Trailers, but I don't want to spend 150.00 for each window plus all the labor and time. I have to admit too that I am not as good a craftsman as some of the talent I see on here. I have seen more awesome builds here than anywhere on the net.

Frank Bear now has two styles of teardrop trailer doors to choose from:

http://teardroptrailerparts.com/36x26_Mill_Panel_Door.html
New Generation Driver's Side Foam Core Insulated 26" 36" Teardrop Trailer Door
With Tinted High Quality 15" x 28" RV Window With Radius Corners
Mill Finish Panel with Black Trim

http://teardroptrailerparts.com/36x26_Drivers_Side_Door.html
New 26" x 36" Teardrop Trailer Driver's Side Door Tinted Glass With Radius Corners & Black Frame & Half Screen

The "New Generation" insulated doors are a nice alternative choice to the all glass and aluminum ones he's sold for a longer time. On his ebay site he indicates they can be ordered with colored aluminum panels too.

I bought these doors from Vintek for my weekender. I was very pleased with the quality of the doors and the customer service provided by Frank Bear. I agree that homemade doors look better on the classic teardrops, but the angular look of the weekender really needs manufactured doors and RV trim to look right. They are really easy to install and they seal really well if installed properly. Here are a few helpful hints:
1. Use the trim ring as a template for cutting out the opening. Make sure you cut on the tight side. You can always file or sand to make it larger, but if you make it too large you can't cover up the gap (and there is a fairly small tolerance).
2. The self tapping screws that fasten the door to the trim ring are not all that self tapping. I tried with several large drill drivers and finally ended up drilling a small pilot hole for each screw.
3. Installation is a two person job. Someone has to stand on the outside and hold the door in place while another screws the trim ring from inside.

The locks and especially the deadbolt that works with an inside lever are also very nice features.

Positive. :)

You show a picture of his 32" tall door. If you are on the tall side you might consider Frank Bear's 36" tall doors. The taller door could make entering and getting out easier with less chance of bumping or bruising your head. The 32" door you show costs $25 less than the similar 36" one.

You might consider his other door http://teardroptrailerparts.com/36x26_Mill_Panel_Door.html which is insulated with not as large a window area. It might be a bit more comfortable in hot or cold (moisture condensation) weather. A little more private too.

Tip: measure your seated height (seat to top of head) to help figure out which door fits your needs and budget better.

6' 4" Steve :) so I'd choose the taller door.

I couldn't tell what color they come stock. I wonder if it's aluminum or white. I'm torn between the two styles actually. The all black style look really nice, but they don't look as Teardrop style as the mill panel ones. They are $25.00 cheaper than the mill panels. Why can't we find teardrop shaped doors? Darn it.
If someone introduced them they would sell like pancakes.
On another note, I have been digging like crazy trying to figure out why I can't get email notifications when someone replies. I am on many other forums, and get the notifications on them just fine. Everything is set right and I even added the site's email to my contacts. very strange. Also, I have never seen a site where you have to subscribe individually to each thread. It's normally done automatically.

What do you mean by a teardrop shaped door? I can imagine several shapes but it is probably in the eye of the beholder.

Vintage Technologies

Thank you for viewing our New Generation Foam Core Door. We had this door especially designed for Teardrop Trailers utilizing our trim ring technology for installation giving the door a finished look both inside and out. Offering a better seal then other foam core doors you see advertised on Ebay. The door comes with a 3/4" trim ring to accommodate a 3/4" wall and are available to fit walls up to 2-7/8" by calling our store for 26.00 each (Special order trim rings can take up to 2 weeks to get due to the manufacturing process.

The cut out on the door measure 26-1/4" x 36-1/4 with a 3-5/16" Radius This door comes with High Quality RV 15" x 28" Window. Exterior key lock and interior dead bold lock.

Door interior and exterior available in different color options by calling our store

I copied a description from Vintage Technologies, Frank Bear's, website for the New Generation insulated doors and highlighted where it says to call him about different color options for the doors. His phone number is 269-665-9060.

Added a link to aluminum siding colors he offers. http://teardroptrailerparts.com/Vintage_Siding_Roof_Alum.html 19 samples are shown. Maybe the New Generation door panels could be customized with a color (or, perhaps two, with one color outside and another color inside) of the buyers choice from the available colors? Call and find out, then share your information with us, please. It would be very helpful.

You may be comparing two different sizes of doors, which is why there is a price difference. The door in your picture way up above is a 32" tall door. The same style door is $25 more if it is a 36" tall door. Looking at Vintage Technologies website it looks like the New Generation insulated door is only offered as a 36" tall door. Both of his 36" tall doors are the same price. edited to add, the New Generation door seems to be available in both 32" tall and 36" tall versions. His ebay site and his "main" door and window pages each show one, or the other. It's confusing.

His ebay website lacks information that his "main" website includes on its windows and doors page http://teardroptrailerparts.com/Windows___Doors.html

BTW I recently looked for all the sellers of teardrop doors I could find and posted More Choices for Manufactured Door(s) in the Teardrops Construction Tips & Techniques area http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=57273 with brief information and web links from the six sellers I found, including Vintage Technologies. Maybe, check them all out to see who has what you best like and can afford.

There are several aluminum mill finish doors available from other sellers. http://silvertearscampers.com/parts/parts.html has two.

Disclaimer, many of these doors are ones I found on the internet and I do not vouch for them. Do your own research before buying.
