Alabama gal

Postby yesdog » Sun Sep 08, 2013 2:51 pm

I'm a 60-something year-old girl on an adventure! I have no idea how to go about it, yet I'm building a teardrop (of sorts) trailer. I live close-in to the city of Birmingham, AL and plan to build the camper in the parking lot behind my little abode.

I purchased a gently used 4x8 HF red trailer from a 15 year-old kid in the landscape business. (I didn't ask him how he towed the trailer, since he's not old enough to drive in Alabama!) My first task is to remove the wooden railings and plywood floor that the boy installed using little skill and 17 different fasteners of all sizes. Luckily I have an assortment of wrenches, etc. and have been able to make some progress. I see this is going to be a time consuming adventure! :)

Regarding the trailer... I plan to replace the tongue with one that is longer, which will hopefully help the backing-up issue. :NC I also want to replace the wheels with a larger size. I need to learn to learn about wheel bearings, buddys, grease, and SO MUCH ELSE.

I have set up my gallery under the name of Yesdog and have pics posted of the trailer there. I also need to learn to post photos here! I'm sure there is a tutorial on the site, which I'll find and do my best to follow the directions. (Not my strong suit.)

I have a rough sketch of the camper I intend to build and I'll scan the drawings and post later.

Like Minnie Pearl would say, "I'm just so proud to be here!"

Well you got them in your album that's 1/2 of the battle.

Just click on the picture you want and look to directly under it for the http address

click on it and copy it

Image

close out and go back to your post

look for the img button and click on it

Past the copied http address between the double sets of brackets

and you have just inserted the picture

P.S.
Extending the tongue is rather easy just flop over the bracket at the nose and slide in a 2x2 x3/16 square tube and you can weld or bolt it to the crossmembers. You want to add 18" to 24" to the stock length.

Here is Down under techs tongue extention

P.S.S. Welcome to the insanity

Hi ClifftonGA... I'm sure I won't have my TD built in time for the gathering! :( Maybe next time? Does the Dixie Chapter have a website, or are the chapter's trips posted here somewhere?

And BobHenry! Wow, thanks! I think I can handle both the posting and the tongue extension!! (You make it all sound soooo easy)! :NC

Best to all!

Look up at the tabs at the top and go to 'td friendly sites" and go to Tearjerkers and join! We have all the gathering information there and if you tent camp or even van camp just come on we welcome everyone!! We also have some folks that just come up on Saturday for the meal and socialize.
