Question about my breaker box

Postby atcNick » Tue Sep 10, 2013 9:40 pm

I want to add a few extra recepticles in my cargo trailer. I have 30 amp power running to the trailer. I have a rooftop AC, overhead lights, 3 recepticles. I want to add 3-4 more recepticles. I have three slots open in the breaker box, they're on the same side as the 30 amp breaker. Will it be a problem to add another breaker? Should I get just 1 breaker for the extra recepticles I want?

From a maximum point of view, You might want to be sure your jumper between busbars is sized to handle the potential 30Amp load.
Of course your main breaker (not counting on the current limiting device of whatever you are plugged into) will not allow more than a total of 30A from any combination of the branch circuits.

Thanks. Speaking of jumpers, does that jumper wire look too small for that load?

Looks like you are coming in on 10 gage wire I would match the jumper as 10 gage also !

Just my 2 cents worth....

Rule #1 about wire size, "when in doubt always go bigger"...... Yes it should be at least same size as supply line...

+1 what the others said, minimum #10 jumper between phases.

You might also check to see if the SJ cord feed from the inlet has the correct size ground wire, it looks undersized on that cord. It should be 10 gauge minimum on a 30 amp circuit, NEC 250.122) It could be the angle of the photo also.

Is the extra bare wire on the ground bar going to the trailer frame?
