Sorry I been over at the Coleman Collectors forums driving them nuts for a while. I have not started any thing on my camper but collecting a few parts here and there and looking in junkyards for window ideas. I did stumble across something neat.
Bendable plywood. I have seen plywood before that was made to bend. Two to three layer of thin wood with fiber in between them, all the wood grain in these layers runs the same way allowing it to bent in one direction. Still not sources for it yet, but at last month woodworkers guild meeting we had a guest speaker, His shop builds high end wood products and trim for banks, offices, Hotels, and houses. He brought some example of the plywood they use and can get. One is a new Bendable plywood that is use for curved desk like you often see in Hotels receptions area. This wood has two layers of ply with a layer of plastic in the middle. The wood is very soft and will bend easily. Bending it back and forth you can see the grain separating. It would not be the type of wood you would use for your external Woody teardrop but would work for a underlayer. They often bend it in a form and veneer over it. Great thing about it is, the plastic will make it waterproof, except where you drive a nail in it. After the long weekend is over I’m going go to the shop and see about buying some cut off for testing. It come in ¼ sheets and something around ½”. Can be in 4x8 sheets or 8x4 sheets ( grain running longways ). I’ll will check it out and get pricing if I can. Here is a Pic snapped with a cell phone. The guy said I could build it to a 6” radius but I was not going to try it.
