Greetings from Escondido, CA

Postby robrj » Tue Sep 24, 2013 12:30 pm

Hello All. I joined about 2 weeks ago and have been stealthily browsing around all the wonderful builds and restores. I'm glad I found this site. My wife and I are going to be moving from tent camping to trailering. We're both in our 50s so she's having a hard time lying on the ground in a two person tent, she's a trooper though. I'm considering either building a teardrop or trying to restore a canned ham (my wife loves those).

My towing vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Tacoma V6. She's rated for 6500 lbs so a canned ham sounds like it would fit the bill nicely.

Welcome to the Forum!
We too just moved from tent camping to our new Tear Drop this past year.................What a wonderful change!
Just towed "Miss Piggy" 10,000 miles this summer (so far, but we are headed south again this week). Both behind our 46 Studebaker PU and Sandi's new Hyundai Santa Fe. With either we don't even know it is there until we stop and a crowd gathers behind us.
Tear Dropping is still as close to camping as you can get without being confined to the inside of a trailer or Motorhome.
Just food for thought.

Welcome to the forum.
Escondido...what a great place to live.
I have fond memories of riding my cousins horse along the water roads and through the avocado groves many years ago.
Good luck building or restoring, you've come to the right place to do either.

Welcome to the forum and ditto what Danny says. My husband used to teach at Miller Elementary School in Escondido. We have fond memories as well.

You will not regret your decision to move to a comfortable bed. And you will definitely enjoy camping with other Tearjerkers, so plug in to the group and brace yourself for the good times to come!!
Life is sooooo good.........

We have our own little avocado grove (16 trees). We love it here. We just moved to our house last year. We're up on a hill so we get a nice breeze all day.

We're about a mile from Miller. We love South Escondido. Looking forward to camping as well.

I don't know what that was so I googled it. According to the Reader, it deteriorated and blew down in a storm in 1977:

My father-in law talked about the teepee several times. He lived just across the valley until his passing.
Found this on the web.

One of the things I really miss about Escondido is walking the dogs to get donuts at Peterson's on a Sunday. :D :D
They loved to go for the walk, cause they often got to share some donut holes with me.

Age is like fine wine, it gets better as it ages. :R
Here's more on the Teepee.
I've been to each and every Fall Brigade.
Now back to the newbee from Escondido.

Hello, robrj, welcome aboard, the wonderful camping experience of teardrops and vintage travel trailers. Hey, we are practially neighbors, and if you hop onto the I-15 and head north for about 25 miles, I would welcome you to swing on by my place in Wildomar, and we can talk vintage trailers and teardrop trailers. I am in the middle of building my 5th camping rig, and would be happy to share what little I know about their construction and such. Vintage trailers, and teardrops, I love em all. Remember, the coffee is always on here at my place, just give me a heads up when you can come by. Hope to meet you soon.
