Coleman Keepers Campfire come on in!

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby Fyddler » Tue Sep 24, 2013 8:42 pm

Just picked this up at my local flea market for $10.00. Don't know a thing about it, but it called my name! It is super clean except for a bit of black smudging on the neck. Now to google how to use it!

The weather here is starting to turn cooler and cooler and the days are getting shorter and shorter. Haven’t needed to run the lanterns for heat nor light all summer, but have been putting in several hours of build time on TPCE most week nights.

Well, I was doing some detail work making trim tonight and decided I needed some more light on the subject. Time for the debutantes to debut.

From the veil of darkness, it is my pleasure to present Cherry. She is in exceptional condition and came to me with a nice piece of wire wrap plastic sleeve on her handle to protect the font from paint chips. Fueled her up, pumped and lit right up nice and sweet. Her mantle has a severe split and I need to order some new, so did not run her for long. Sorry, I have not committed her birth date to memory yet, and did not think to get a pic of her bottom (silly me). Best part is she is a gift from a friend.

They say good things come in pairs. I’m going to call this little working girl Peppermint Patty. She’s a little rough in some ways, but she is all there and ready to go once she has a new mantle. Never mind that little beauty mark, she’s got some character and won’t mind getting a little down and dirty, if you know what I mean. Another gift from another friend.

I want to say that Cherry is an early 64 and Patty is a 65, but it could be 65 and 66. I’ll have to double check.

So I’m up to four lanterns and two stoves. I can still quit if I want to. In fact I think I’m good for now.

Take your best shot and jump me into the 200A Gang. (You can call it a club if you want, but let’s be honest with ourselves, it’s a gang thing.)

And just to cap things off for the evening, I fired up the turd. She still had pressure after all summer and lit right up nice and easy.

I had to miss the bootfair last weekend due to some minor flooding. But this sunday I will hit the flea and try to get one for $5 instead of $375.

I have not bought a lantern in like 2 or three weeks!!! Oh wait a minute I did buy one little 275 with a broken globe from the thriftshop a couple of days ago. But that doesnt really count.

Bootfair or bust!

So tonight I am cutting into a perfectly good turd to make a franky with the plan Eric has described. I got the right tap and drill and lanterns and time. I started to take apart the 275 when I realized I have never worked on a turd before. All my 275s work and did so from acquisition.

Its funny you know every lantern I tear into I look for signs that I am the first. The first to be careful with the screws. The first to be careful with the nuts. You know the first. And then you find it ----- deep into the teardown you find it, the nut that looks like it has been in vicegrip pliers. The screw that went wrong.

Once you know that someone else has been in there its ok somehow to chop it and frankie it or whatever. This turd is untouched and its hard to chop it. Just sayin.

But it is just a $5 dollar lantern and I have to get over it.

I am sicker than I thought. :frightened:

Yes you are, but not for having misgivings about loving lanterns and hating to chop one up. They are all special in their own way. My 275 turd is my best runner, but if I had dozens of them I'm sure one or two would be expendable for a higher cause.

I'm sure you will do it proud, and the other parts will make good spares for your remaining fleet.

Any progress on the carry box you mentioned you were going to build in the other thread?

No progress but I am serious about it. I may get wood on sunday if I can find what I want.
