Drop In Stove W/1 Lbs LP Bottles

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anybody has a lp stove that uses Coleman bottle propane. I have seen it somewhere but right now I can't remember where. It's a drop in 2 burner stove and underneath you just use screw in a 1 lbs bottle. I don't want to run gas lines and have to take up space with a tank. On top of that you can transport the gas tanks through tunnels. Can I just purchase a 2 burner stove that comes already for this application or I need an adapter? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Any way, I just put the walls up this week so I'm far from building the kitchen area.

Any drop in stove can be made to run off of 1lb Propane bottles. By using one of these;

I re did a Scotty Trailer with a stove inside that was fed by a 20lb bottle mounted on the tongue. I just couldn't justify the extra weight of the Propane bottle to use on a stove I would use every now and then.

Len pretty much covered everything...

I used an old drop in stove and got the regulator from a BBQ grill someone tossed.
I ran hard pipe about a foot or so under the counter so the bottle would be well supported, we always took it off before traveling though.

This is all I need. I don't want to be toting around no 25 gallon tank cause of the space and weight. When we go camping we don't do much stove cooking anyway. I just want to get away from the Coleman stove that you have to fill and pump up. The only problem with that stove is that it doesn't regulate too well. It's either full blast or off. Maybe the vale is bad, need to check. With a drop in I can get a cover and not loose too much space on the counter top. Maybe place it in a drawer so it just slides out to save space. Still far from that cause I'm just starting my build. That'll be my winter project.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the quick responses and the ideas. I need to get away from that Coleman liquid stove to make it easier to cook. This way I can forget about hearing the Mrs. saying... fill the tank.... pump it up... it's too high... I only cook at home... Well the last one I'll never hear the end of it. Ha ha ha...

One other thing Carlos, You'll note that in Rob's photo the bottle is upright.

Thats very important. If you use a flex line you'll have to rig something up to keep the bottle in that position.

Hey Rob, I will be installing a small microwave in the middle of the top shelf above the counter. You know you need to warm up leftovers and heat up coffee. Len, I'm gonna make a bracket to place the tank in to keep it upright. That was gonna be my next question, does it need to be upright? And you answered it for me. That way i can place the stove on a sliding drawer without tipping the tank over when closing and opening the drawer. I was doing some measurements and I guess I'll have to place my axle over the spring. That way the countertop isn't too high and I can install a 1.7 cu small fridge. Well guys, thanks for the help. Had to stop the build due to lack of funds and other things around the house need to be worked on. Next thing I have to build is the kitchen galley. Is the correct? Build the cabinets outside, finish the walls interior, slide the cabinets in and then install the inner ceiling. Let me know.

The gas valve tubes on my suitcase propane stove hold the bottles at an inclined angle similar to this image of a Coleman propane skillet.

So if needed it would be okay to tilt the bottle some. I think you only need to be sure to keep the threaded connection "generally" towards the top.

Of course, the easiest and most practical way to do this is usually with the bottle vertical, but if that is not the case it is okay to tilt it some. Just saying.

Edit: Only in reference to the small 1 lb. bottles. Bigger bottles with a built in foot should be stored upright.

Uhh Guys.... In my search for I did find a few stoves. I was looking for a one burner stove and came across a butane bottle stove. Just like a propane bottle stove but a little bit more pricey, not too much though. Now, which might be better? Any suggestions are very much welcomed.

This seems to be a reasonable comparison between butane and propane. Should help you decide what is best for your usage.

Ok I guess propane is the best way to go. Butane is expensive and can't find it every where.
