Another guy with a Kuffel Creek build

Postby Toyotamike » Thu Sep 13, 2012 5:47 am

Hey guys thought I'd pop in and say hi. I'm from Washington state and have been researching this hobby for 2 years now. I finally decided on the Kuffel creek cubby 8 plans about a year ago and while I'm just the one financing the project, my father is the one building it as he is certainly a better carpenter than myself. I do plan on customizing it once the basic tear drop is done. This is going behind my trail truck, a 1985 toyota 4x4 pickup, and so I will be adding a 1" HREW basic cage around the outside and will be getting a Toyota 8" rear axle and springs so as to serve as a spare parts holder per-say. Found a sweet deal on 4 sheets of Filon siding and my dad got to get some parts off a trailer that was being demolished so costs have been under $1500 so far. Have some of the older pictures, haven't scanned any of the new ones.

Welcome to the forum.

Looking good Mike. ( Tell your dad that ). Just kidding. I see some solar panels in the background. You going to set up the camper with some solar stuff.

Actually thats an interesting side note. They live in the mountains and are off the grid. This is being made using solar power and generators to power the tools. But I do plan to add a smaller panel to the TD since where we camp and wheel is no where near hookups :)

That’s Great Mike.

My little woody TD is 4’X8’ and same HF frame. I have a small 5 watt panel that charges a small power pack with two LED lights. Gives me about 11 hours of light. Fun to play with the solar stuff.

So been awhile but I finally got my trailer and started dialing it in and modifying it. My dad made me a solid starting point.

Now this picture is before I installed the struts to keep the hatch up. By the way I used the large "Bed Lift" kit from Camping world and it works PERFECT for this!

And here is how it sits now. 2 cans of spray paint made this thing look fantastic! This also has a 16 gal fresh water tank under the rear with an off/on galley faucet. Sink has a dump hose that goes out the bottom through a close-able wood flap. The 45W harbor freight solar panel kit works great and the stand made it easy to keep it in direct sunlight. Has a large marine deep cycle battery, a converter reused from an old camp trailer for when hookups are available, a 800W Coleman inverter for dry camping. Still need to finish the entertainment system on the inside. Also need to switch to LED's for the lights that aren't already LED.

Hello Mike and welcome.
Looks like Dad did a great job for you. The whole thing looks great and I know that you will have many a good year camping with the TT.

God luck,
Rod
