I went camping last weekend, not this one. Never needed the generator; so here are pictures I took today, to show what I meant in my previous post (full descriptions are under photos in my gallery):
  • 113093 pulled out, turned, mounted on brace, pushed forward to locating stop pin
  • 113094 better view of brace & pin
  • 113095 shows air gap for exhaust
  • 113096 rubber vibration isolators
2013 HHRv "squareback/squaredrop", rugged, 4x8 TTT, 2225 lbs
  • *3500 lb Dexter EZ-Lube braked axle, 3000 lb.springs, active-progressive bumpstop suspension
  • *27 x 8.5-14LT AT tires (x 3) *Weight Distribution system for single-beam tongue
  • *100% LED's & GFCI outlets, 3x fans, AM/FM/CD/Aux. *A/C & heat, Optima AGM, inverter & charger(s)
  • *extended-run, on-board, 2500w generator *Coleman dual-fuel stove & lantern, Ikea grill, vintage skillet
  • *zinc/stainless front & side racks *98"L x 6" diameter rod & reel carrier tube on roof

I put a Yamaha 1000 in the tongue box. I added doors for air to go in and out of. I added a tray above the generator for storage and a light so I can start it at night.

If you've ever wondered if putting the generator in a box makes it quieter, well you be the judge. Here's my very unscientific test:

P.S. I got the idea from Dan Hazzard:

I'd get a Champion Inverter generator if I was doing it all over:

In or out of the box the sound is, IMHO, annoying. I was once anchored in a cove at Santa Cruz Island and was running my SCUBA compressor. There were CHEERS and CLAPPING when I was done and shut it down! I too was cheering and clapping.

I'm sure you use the generator only as a last resort.

Cheers,

Gus

I have a jumper cable and 150A powerpole connectors so I can hook the TV battery/alternator to charge the tear battery, haven't had to use it the solar panel works well. Car on idle uses .34 gallons per hour and much quieter than the generator.
