Water tank to strap under a H.F. traler

Postby BlackCatRacing » Thu Oct 03, 2013 9:54 pm

I have looked and am still looking for a water tank to strap under my H. F. build. Looking to locate it right over the axle so it can be no taller than 5", width close to 18", length 40". So has anyone located a water tank under there tear and if so would you be willing to share how it was installed and where it was purchased. I have a Sureflow tankless water pump and tankless hot water heater that work great. Just need somewhere to put about 15 gals of water.
Thanks Patrick

Not me, but there's been some discussion about using 4" PVC pipe. Here's a link to get you started:

I toyed with the idea but need the clearance to camp where I like to park.

The idea of pipe for a tank is interesting but It seems like a rectangle tank would be easier to install and hold more water. Just having a problem finding one. Might have to go with 4 portable 5 gallon tanks hanging off the sides...

They seem to have plenty of choices, although you want a really shallow one. I have also read several guys made their own from fiberglass, I'll see if I can find a link.

Directly over the axle seemed like the best place to mount a tank.
I found a rectangular 12 gal. PVC tank online someplace. There is a limiter over the axle so it doesn't go too far up, keeping the tires from hitting the wheel wells, giving me 5 inch clearance below the floor. The bed was raised to clear the wheel wells. This gave me 5 inches above the floor to mount the 8 inch heigh tank.
I welded a sub frame to mount the tank.

We used our 8" deep space underneath for storage instead of water.
All of our clothes are stored in sealed plastic totes (the ones you buy for string linens under your bed at home) under our bed.
Best feature we have in Miss Piggy!
We don't miss onboard water storage or a built in sink one bit!!

My ProLite came with a 35 1/2 x 20 x 4 1/2 fresh water tank. Drain valve and fittings are on the long end. Don't know where they sourced it but they might tell you.

Did some checking and it seems it's only about 11 Gal. Sorry :(

Bruce, that tank must be sitting behind the axle. Until I figured it out it looked like it was sitting on the axle. That is the exact set up I want to do but because of previous commitments from the propane tank mine has to sit directly over the axle and can be no higher than 5 inches, Thanks for the help everyone.
