Finally a side tent

I am really happy with the tent, for what I paid I didn't expect much. I can set it up in 10 minutes or 20 when my granddaughter helps. First time out it withstood 45 mile and hour winds with really heavy rain but it leaked really bad. Took two waterproofing treatments to get it to stay dry in a rain storm. I do like the large windows, zippers are easy to use. $185 seems a bit high to me personally but I notice tents can be expensive.

Just out of boredom the other day, I looked on eBay to see what the SUV tents were going for. There was the Texsport 01250 for $30....so I snagged it.

I picked up one of the Academy side tents as well. For $20, I don't think you can go wrong. The quality is on par with the walmart backpack tents. I wouldn't try and live in it, but it should work pretty well a few times a year. I hope to develop a means to attach it to the side of my TD, but if not, the canopy could work fine when I need that extra space.

Field-tested the canopy with side tent attached in actual rainy camping. The canopy over the trailer kept it dry, and the side tent, whose door aligned perfectly with my second (streetside) door, made a great changing room (and porta potty place, though never needed). I made a dry entry into the side tent in a pouring rain, just to see). When I broke camp, 18 hours after the last rain, I only found an ounce of water in it (from the unsecured doorflap). For a $50 canopy, and a $20 side-tent, I consider it/them well worth the money.

Here's an option for someone who wants a "lot of room" type of side tent. Found this on Amazon:

Looks like the openings on that would line up with most teardrop doors. And no, I still haven't gotten around to sewing up my side room yet, will post photos when done.

True for my Timber Creek $20 special, also. At least for my one-off design. The combination canopy/sidetent fit perfectly over my trailer, and gave me dry access to the changing room (tested in the rain)/potty room (not tested yet!), and the overhang of 4'x8' on the other side made sitting (dry) in the rain a pleasure.
