Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

I am starting to, research a conversion. Been a casita owner previously. A local trailer rep told me to compare the weight of comparable manufactures and the heavier on is the better built. Do you agree. Thanks

Better built? Heavier duty? Light weight construction? Just extra dead weight?

Get the trailer rated for the weight that you need from a reputable dealer.

What would you be pulling it with? Are you looking at a single or tandem axle trailer? And i would for sure buy some thing with all metal frame and metal ribs,no wood! Not sure on the heavier the better quality theory! Well good luck on your search and purchase and have fun with it. :worship:

My casita is a bit small and has poor insulation for winter camping. Also it has space taken up with things I don't need like a sink and stove. I hunt with 3 bird dogs possibly adding a 4th so it's crowded

At this time my thoughts are a haul mark transport 16 foot x 7 dual axle. That's another thing about the casita the single axle and blowouts are very common despite extra care of tires during storage and replacing every 3 years

I tow with a 1/2 ton silverado. I don't want plumbing but want a shower and just run a shower head thru a vent or small window. Add propane tanks, heater and 12 vdc lighting and 120vac receptacles. Add insiulation and double size bed will be all set

Did the walls inside your casita sweat like Niagra falls & rust like crazy ?
That the problem I had in the winter with my metal trailer :x :x

How cold is it in the winter where you will be hunting ?

If your looking for very good quality "NOT CHEAP" try CarMate trailers They have wood walls and are better in the cold
Order one with plywood installed on the exterior studs - then the skin.

http://www.carmate-trailers.com/new_vehicle_list.asp?DispType=4855&Desc=Custom+Cargo&Manufacturer=2359&Category=85&CatDesc=Cargo+Trailers&show=all

If your only part time or price over quality is more important then
Texas or Ga make lots of units.

Trailershowroom.com is a good place to look

Good luck in ur search

Oh no not at all, he just came to the right place for a conglomeration of the meeting of the minds. If we can't dazzle him with brilliance we can dang sure baffle him with BS.

I bought a brand new 7X14 Haulmark Transport back in 2004 and used it to haul a large P.A. system aka The Band Wagon. And now in 2013 i am converting. And i gotta say the Haulmark is a pretty tough trailer, Rigid, water tight, axles have held up except the roof cap it is splitting in 3 different places. But over all it was good buy and i feel they will make good conversions.
