Teardrops in Wisconsin

Postby Zipline65 » Thu Oct 17, 2013 8:51 am

Good morning. We are vacationing in Wisconsin and have plans to visit 2 manufacturers up here - TCTears and Camp-inn. I know that Big Woody is also in Wisconsin. Are there any others that I have missed?

Not Wisconsin, but in Michigan. Alaskateardrop is doing some great ultra lights.

Thank you for the help. I thought there was one in Stephens Point. We'll see if we can fit them in.

Hi Liz,

Bob and I own a 5X9 TCTeardrop. Since we took possession of it last February, we've put a good 1500 plus miles on it in various camping adventures and are extremely happy with it. Compared to some of the higher end teardrops with fancier finishing and details (and higher cost) in both sleeping quarters and galley, our TCT may not have all the bells and whistles, but it does the job we need it to do. We've seen both a model 560 Camp Inn and a smaller version of a Retro Ride while out camping, was able to get a tour of each and they were both very nice.

Two weekends ago we attended TCT's first annual gathering in Portage, Wi and I met both RioWilson and Moxie50, both members here on this board. If interested, there's quite a few photos of various TCTs at the gathering, some having modifications by owners. Our teardrop is the one in photos with the two tan FirstUp canopies.

Retro Ride (Plover, WI) and TCT (Wausau, WI) are both located along Interstate 35, we're in-between and if you happen to be in the area, you're welcome to stop on by and take a look at our teardrop. PM me here if you need any info . By the way, both Bob and I are originally from Chicago and northern Illinois, we'd love to hear what's new "in the old country" :)

Teardrop camping is a lot of fun!

We had a great mini-vacation in Wisconsin. A few days in Door county admiring the fall colors and a few days roaming central WI checking out teardrops.
We talked to a Little Guy dealer in Wautoma who has a great deal on a 2013 6' wide.($7400.) We visited Camp-Inn, TCTears, L'il Hut and Retro-Ride. We've ruled out Little Guy and Camp-Inn due to the price. We are intrigued by the other three builders. Prices range from $4900 to $8k. Each one has something different to consider. I see now why so many choose to build their own. I'd love some feedback from owners of these brands.

We went through a similar process and ended up with a TC Teardrop 5X9. We have put on about 5000 miles and spent about 30 nights in it thus far, and we still love it. The nice thing about the TC is the ability to customize to your own liking. We have added tons of mods to ours, and we keep refining it to our needs and likes. We demo'ed a Camp-Inn, and it was beautiful, not unlike a Ferrari is beautiful. But our very nature is more utilitarian than style. And just like a Ferrari, I would be scared to mod a Camp-Inn very much. We took our TC to Florida last year, and are headed down to New Orleans with it this winter.

At the end of the day - go with your gut, and don't look back. We've owned everything from a pop-up to a toy hauler, and we have been charmed by our TC. Todd and Carol are also super easy to work with. Recently Todd told me to check on some screws because he thought he had a bad batch around the time our trailer was made. I checked, he was right. He mailed me replacement screws that week. Awesome customer service.

We have never once regretted buying our TC. As a matter of fact we are keeping an eye on the weather for another trip next weekend.

If you have any more questions just ask! And if you get near Madison any time soon and would like to see ours, just let me know.
