My thoughts were to use a strip plank 1/8'. Now I know the limitations the design can start.

I've yet to finish my td but enjoying mulling over the motorcycle concept.

Yes the towing laws for motorcycles are very limiting 1mtr max width and max 2.4(?) from TV Axle to rear of trailer and max150kg. I suppose I am lucky with the trike as I at least have no with restrictions.

Don't know if I ever posted a pic of my potential towing vehicle.

Below is a photo of my trailer. I bought this trailer in 2009. Replicating this is something that you might want to consider if Her Majesty will let you put it on the roads. This little thing weighs in at 330lb/150kg. The trailer is 7.5 feet long, and 3 feet wide. The wide tyres keep the trailer stable on the road. The cabin has an aluminum frame and is coated with aluminium walls. The inside walls are plywood with foam in between. The trailer is very simple. It's an aluminium T with torsion axles.

I tow it with a Chevrolet Aveo with a 1.6L engine and don't notice the trailer. A powerful bike or trike should be able to drag something that small. It has no galley, so a lot of the weight that other trailers carry is not there. It's so light that it does get airborne when I'm pulling it on less than perfect roads at high speeds.

I hope that you find or build something that suits your needs.

Jen I really like the look of your trailer :D

Do you have any side on photos? Does it have a rear hatch ( I think I can see one)?

I have been reading up on bolted aluminium trailer structure tonight and have ideas  There is a lot out there on aluminium boat trailer construction.

Cup of tea, graph paper, pencil and calculator after dinner I think.

Thanks everyone for your input so far, I love how sharing ideas can spark off different ways of looking at the problem.

I promise to post my ideas when I have them on paper.

I thought the estimate of a sheet of 1/8 aluminium didn't sound right. According to http://www.aalco.co.uk/online-tools/weight-calculator/ and 8x4x 1/8 is 108 lbs

Check out the "Spud" if you can find it here on the Forum search.
I believe the design rights were sold to a tear drop company in Oregon.
Good Luck!

4x10, 0.04 (19 gauge) aluminum sheet is 22.8 pounds. I skinned my tear in that at $52 per sheet.

4x10, 0.063 (16 gauge) aluminum floor plate is 35.9 pounds. I considered making my tongue box with that at $105 per sheet, but ended up just skinning a plywood box with the 0.04 aluminum sheets.
