The batteries will last a long time if you take them out after each camping trip. Otherwise, expect to replace the batteries pretty often. Also, remember to take the batteries out at the end of the season so you don't get any acid leaks, which sometimes happens when batteries are left in too long. (I sometimes get lazy and/or forget.) (It's kind of like storing your lawnmower for the winter. You drain and use up all the gas in the tank before storing it.)
