Len reminded me that not everywhere in Britain is gun-free - as shipbuilding apprentices, we were taken to visit the banana reception plant in a nearby dock building and hanging on the wall was a shotgun. Our guide explained that, although they had a nurse on duty with the antidote whenever bananas were being unloaded, they still found the best protection against the tarantulas that had travelled over with the bananas (and hadn't enjoyed the trip) was to blast away the bananas, the spider and the conveyor belt with a shotgun.

Whether you pack or not is your choice.
If you're gonna carry know what you've got and how to use it safely. I used to teach small arms in the Air Force, and a .38 revolver -- which most here would poo-poo -- is a pretty fierce force. Given the choice I'd take it over the M-16 we also taught. But we taught a Remington 12 gauge and my favorite, the M-60, as well.

I didn't get to bring any of 'em with me when I got out...and no, I don't have a concealed-carry license, or any firearms in my house, now. I married a man who accidentally put a .22LR thru his knee in the 5th grade because he didn't know the 9-shot pistol was (partially) loaded, and was 'dry-firing' one afternoon.

Brandon Lee and Jon-Erik Hexum were killed by similarly "not loaded" pistols.

My point?
A gun's a tool, and like the tools you use in messing with electricity, you best be paying attention around it.

Laredo the first thing I was taught about shooting was that more people were killed w/ unloaded guns than any thing else. second never pull a gun unless you intended to use it.

...my carry around weapon is a .38 Special service revolver with a 2.5" barrel loaded with leadhead dumdums...if you walk thru those 5 rds, I will happily give it to you...since it ain't legal to kill ya(in La) unless you are up close and personal, the short barrel works just fine TYVM and since unloaded guns kill, I long ago decided that all my weapons are loaded all the time...an unloaded gun is a very inefficient club...

My bad this time Jack IT was ment to read more people were accidentally killed with a unloaded gun .
I.E. man standing over his dead fried saying I would have swore the gun was unloaded.

I was raised in a family that has plenty of firearms as we hunt what ever comes in season such as deer, duck, dove, etc. Being a SWF that loves to go out into the woods I'd take one with me unless I have a friend or a dog accompanying me. I have one I keep at my house and my summer home because up here in Humboldt odd things can happen to a woman alone in the outdoors--speaking from experience--
and I have no qualms about using them should the situation necessitate it.
My philosophy is hope for the best, but be aware and plan for the worst.

Although I am very cautious and careful about their use, I realize that not all people may not be as vigilant as they should with firearms, especially if there are children in the household. That is where the problem arises too many times with tragic results.

This has proved to be a very informative thread. But back to the original question....do you pack a gun in your tear.....not yet as I'm still in a SST...

It's in the truck console by day and in the teardrop by night.
If I'm going to a craft show then it's in the truck console by day and in the hotel room / cargo trailer by night.
