Fyi, a propane stove is very easy to work, don't rule it out. I do agree with not building it in though, ours goes on a shelf outside the galley, I didn't want to grease up my pretty wood work! As for bears and ice chest, inside the galley is fine, although we chose not to, it was to have more storage space, not because of bears. We camp with many friends who do have ice chest in their tears in bear country and it is fine. Although I love having more space in the galley, i also have a fine straping old husband who moves the ice chests each night. If i was still a single lady, i might have considered an ice chest in the tear harder. I did, however, camp with a stove. Don!t let them scare you. Just go to a gathering and let all your new friends you will make show you how they work and the different models, and choose the easiest. You may even want to consider a single burner butane. The bottle just screws directly to the burner. No fittings or connections to worry about.

One advantage of the diabetic heart healthy diet I am on is that fried is out along with most good to eat bad for you stuff.
We have a three burner inset cook top that has folding side shields and top/back, but we also have gas grill that gets use a lot anything greasy or splattery or... is done on that and it is on an 8' hose. What I am trying to say is that there are ways around small problems.

I got the idea for mine from her when we met at the DAM Gathering a few years ago. I've gotten lots of great ideas from attending that gathering.

Those butane stoves like the one shown in Debbie's post are great for warm weather camping, but the nature of Butane makes it more and more problematic as the ambient temps get down below 40F and especially if the ambient is <35F. The butane simply loses pressure and fails to make enough flame to be useful. There are lots of propane camp stove alternatives that are worth checking out, including built-ins and portables like mine. I power my propane stove, propane lantern, and portable fire ring from a 20# "barbecue" propane tank that travels out on the tongue of my teardrop.

The pictures of your sliding cabinets... do you travel on the road with all the stuff in open baskets as it is shown in the photo or do you pack them up to be a little more secure? (like the ceramic coffee mugs)

I travel just like that. Usually there is a little more food around them. But we just went from reno to san francisco yesterday with not much in them with no problem. The cabinet is only about 6 inches deep. The stuff in the baskets are full so the don't have anywhere to go. The tall vinegar bottle might tip sideways a little, but everything is in bottles that seal well, so no biggie. The mugs dont move at all. Everything is also on slip resesrant mats.

agree with what Nevadatear has said here - the waffles that came from that galley for breakfast at the Dam Gathering are still on my mind as being the BEST waffles I have ever had!!!! again THANK YOU Nevadatear!!! Ted Hoefer Camano Island, Wash. (I was the little 4x8 tear/blue S-10 parked next to Miss Piggy who bought the ice cream being I don't cook - had to pitch in and do something to help $$$ for all the FANTASTIC potluck food I over loaded on!!!!)
