Forgive Me, For I Have Sinned

Postby CarlLaFong » Tue Oct 22, 2013 10:25 pm

After hanging here for a while, designing my dream TTT, building it in my mind a hundred times, making some friends and pissing off a few others, Wifey and I went to the big RV show in SoCal and bought a new fifth wheel. In my defense, it is smaller than our old one, 26 vs 30 feet, but hardly tiny except by 40 foot Diesel pusher standards.
I do promise, that if you park next to me at a campsite, I will not look down my nose at your coffin on wheels  It looks as if a TTT just wasn't in the cards for me, but I still hope to, somehow, build one someday if time and money allow. I'll stick around and offer up my usual sub standard observations when I can. It's fun here, even for us outsiders and our high falootin' rigs ;)

Do we really need to see pics, I don't think so. This board is titled TEARDROPS and TINY TRAVEL TRAILERS, NOT TEARDROPS AND TRAVEL TRAILERS OF ANY SIZE :o

I love the tiny trailers ans teardrops but I've always had a soft spot for fifth wheels. For me it was not really for camping in, but for living in though, I love the little stairway that they come with. I really love em, but for my own reasons :) Congrats on the purchase!

Sorry to hear that you fell off the wagon. Maybe after hauling it around and trying to park the thing, you will remember what made you want a tiny trailer to start with. If not , enjoy the new trailer and maybe we will meet around a fire someday.

I am so glad you wont look down on us little ones, :) I hope you will join us by the fire and offer to give us a tour. ( you know we wont ask) and Remember while you are working those extra Saturdays to make the payment $> just remember us, we are out in the weather backing or pushing our little TD into that camping spot, sitting by the fire enjoying our cup of coffee :coffee: and listening to the birds and other animals and watching a perfectly wonderful sunrise or sunset. We will be here when you go home after a long days work. We will be eating that wonderful dutchoven pot roast stew with all the succulent vegetables and the delicious pot roast and the Dutch oven bisquits and the duchoven apple cobbler. and after that wonderful dinner, the visiting and sharing with a group of teardrop friends around the campfire :campfire: enjoying wine from the local winery :wine party: and cold bubbly from someones Ice chest the kind you have to use your finger to wipe off the little bits of ice. Oh, and when you do get the weekend off,and are free from the honey do list and you do get to go pull your sub house into the camp ground, we will be glad to give you a tour of our little TD while were we are camping. but its ok to join us here on the forum whilst we talk about building and camping. TCH, sorry I just couldn't help it I am sure there are others who have been here and chosen to go that route and mostly it is because of women who are all upset about the ucky's :frightened: of camping, you have my sympathy, for two seconds. So go and build a TD and come join us.. I didn't say that, :NC ( that is my alter ego  the one who is honest, truthful, un-abashed and open and says her mind and keeps us in trouble,) for all we know perhaps you are the one who doesn't like the uckies :frightened: of camping. Enough with my ugly, we will think no less of you because you chose the big box. Just don't be like most of them unavailable, alloof and not friendly. and ........ just where are the :pictures: ????? and Carl, you are forgiven I was just kidding. :D You are always welcome.

Several things
I have a CDL, backing up and parking a 26 foot trailer is not a problem
I will be buying a DO, soon. You don't need a trailer to cook good stuff
We paid cash. Our house is paid for, as well. I don't work Saturdays, or any other day, for that matter
I don't drink wine or cheapo beer. A nice porter or any good craft brew suits me just fine
I love a good campfire. Oddly enough, we have been known to come out of the trailer and look at the scenery, I have no fear of getting dirty
While both of us enjoy camping, and I do agree that big RVs are not really camping in the strictest sense, what we really like is traveling. 3 or 4 weeks on the road in a dinky little box with a grandkid or two is a bit much.
I have always been one to take the road less traveled. I like oddball stuff. Orphan cars, motorcycles with car engines, cars with motorcycle engines, weird scooters, tiny trailers, three wheeled cars and so on are the things that stoke my fire. The odds that I will, someday, have a TTT are better than 50/50, I believe. Until then, I will lumber about the countryside in my little house, sucking down the remaining dino juice and leaving my giant carbon footprint.
In the meantime............Nya nya nya nya........mine's bigger than yours..........neener neener...........my dad can beat up your dad

Nothing real fancy. No granite counters, plasma TV, triple slides, washer/dryer or hot tub. The little outside kitchen is cool. Extra sink, microwave, fridge and BBQ grill. I can cook like a teardropper and still do the same indoors if (when) I'm lazy, cold or it's raining. Wifey doesn't like to fry bacon and eggs inside, too messy
We pick it up next week, so we hope for a shakedown outing on Thanksgiving weekend, if the grandaughter gets Friday off from work. Whole nuther story there, but it's a happy one

Looks pretty comfy. I like the upper bedroom area of a 5th and the windows. Looks to have good windows to see out, one thing I wish I had more of in my tear.
I got admit if I ever get to a point in my life where I can camp more than I am home I have my eye on a 5th wheel or 16 foot both made by Scamp. Shh don't tell my husband. Have fun and if you see my little outfit stop by and say hi

Carl,
A Tear and a Fiver would suit me just fine.
We had a Tear and a caravan simultaneously for a time but made a decision for the tear as our caravan days were over. We had ambled around Oz twice and a lot of other travels in the van(s) over the years. It was all a part of general down sizing as we now only have a need to do short trips.
Always liked the fiver concept, never owned one but would have liked to. They were rare in Oz but are becoming more common.
Enjoy your travels.

Take it easy.

RD :)
Lets do a three sixty and get out of here !

My condolences for your loss (you know, the argument, the money, etc.). But if it keeps the wife happy and keeps you out camping, then it's all good. I fear I may be in the same boat in the future. But I will keep dreaming of the tear. Maybe if you can try to make sure she is always outside except to sleep, she will come around to the tear later. You know, once she sees that all that space is going unused, she may decide she really does not need it all. It is a nice looking rig, though.

Adventure camping can be an addiction, some will need to have more than one trailer in different styles, sizes and shapes. Glamp on!
Why just dance, when you can Salsa!

We have a 26 ' brand new travel Trailer that we absolutely love... That is when the times call for that, the 2 week camping when all the family comes blah blah blah. But I am building my TD for those weekends when we don't want all the family when we want to just jump in her car and get great mileage when we want to camp simple !! So really I'm glad to have the best of both worlds and looking forward to using which ever one calls for the situation. My Travel trailer is loaded ... My teardrop won't be !!! Love both and can't wait to give the tours :)

I was thinking the same thing as JDhiker . We have a 3 season cottage on a pond which we love BUT there are times when I would like to see the kids & grandkids put it to use while the wife & I head down the road with a teardrop ..........
