Setting up a bed in a teardrop...mattress question

I bought two memory foam toppers and a regular foam topper, wrapped them in a mattress cover. not sure if it was cheaper but it works great. I did add some of theose interlocking high density foam pads under the center of the mattress to keep us from bottoming out when we aren't lying down.

We bought an 8 inch thick memory foam mattress. Very comfortable, comes in 3 layers, and easy to trim. I needed to cut a couple of inches off the length to get it to fit tight. My wife says she has never been more comfortable than on this mattress. We paid $226 a couple of years ago for it on overstock.com...current price is $299.

The mattress fits so tight that we use flat sheets and let the friction between the mattress and the wall keep them in place.

I am considering buying a full sized futon mattress about 8" thick.Could someone give recommendation of foam only or the innerspring version?

I have never seen a Fulton with springs, but it begs the question; can you get it through a teardrop door? Something it consider.

When I designed/built mine, i wanted a full width pass through door below the counter in the galley.This allows me to install a spring mattress. I haven't looked back since.

On my first teardrop it was a 5' wide and I put a full size mattress in it, like Tom said, it is nice to have a little wiggle room for changing sheets, and I used the extra space on the sides for stashing my guitar and other stuff. Don't count out an inner spring mattress. I actually folded it up like a taco and put it in through the door after it was finished, but it is a much easier way to do it by making a trap door below the galley to slip it in from behind.

My current teardrop is like Slows, with the bench/mattress from an old camper and it works great too.
