Pressurized cabin

Postby RandyG » Wed Oct 30, 2013 10:35 pm

In the video of the Mk1 UEV 490, an Austrailian made camper, they have a fan that can pressure the cabin so the dust and water have a hard time getting through the seals while driving. I think it is a nice feature but how does the fan not shot dust in itself? Maybe some sort of filter on it? Has anyone done this or seen this done? I would like the details.

Filters, and a rather hefty fan.

I am reminded of the dwelling we lived in overseas, a fiberglass dome house with a dinky air conditioner. When the AC died, the only replacement the housing maintenance folk could come up with was a commercial unit originally procured for the cold storage facility. When this beast kicked on, all the exterior doors slammed against their latches. We also noticed a lot less dust in the abode...

Made a few trips up the Alcan in pre-pavement days. We would turn the roof vents 180 degrees so that clean air at roof level would be pushed in.
Worked good except than when you passed an oncoming you would pick up some dust. Goes without saying that we didn't follow traffic ahead too closely in those days either.

We have a three stage air filter for Compass Rose, I have asthma that can be deadly in extremely smoky situations. The Tearjerkers gathering at Chain O lakes some years back was VERY unpleasant. The filter is not what you would use to pressurize but a multistage filter would probably work. Or just adapt a HEPA furnace filter to fit over a Fantastic Fan.

I plan on using this MERV 8 antimicrobial filter media and a 5 inch case fan.

The stuff is almost as effective as a HEPA and is much cheaper.
