Sealing porch light wiring holes

Postby kookenotes » Fri Nov 01, 2013 12:23 am

I am in the wiring stage of building my Woodie and have a question about sealing the porch light wiring where is passes through the side walls. The TD is 3/4" plywood with three coats of epoxy and will be coated with 5 to 8 coats of spar varnish. when I drill the holes for the porch light wiring should I seal the wiring through the holes with silicone, try to coat the inside of the hole with epoxy, or is there some other recommended method of sealing those holes? I will have a similar problem when I bolt through the side wall to install a roof rack . I have given it a pretty thorough search and can't find much on the subject. I may be looking in the wrong place. Thanks for any and all ideas. Bill

Thanks Oakinteriors1. That's an interesting product and I have found a local source for it. That looks like it may be a good solution to the problem.

100% silicone has served me well on all the builds. The Lexan topped Chubby has a 3 part roof and the center strip is drilled and screwed down to the right and left side pieces and sealed the whole length with a continuious bead of 100% silicone. It also sealed the outboard lights and power port. 5 years in the weather 24-7 and no leaks.

Thanks for your response Bob. One of the things on my bucket list when I get this project campable is to make it to one of the big gatherings and get a chance to attend one of your DO seminars. I think I have all the TD related addictions now. :?
