Anone ever rebuilt an RV window?

I thought I got a screaming deal on a used RV window at the junkyard. For $10, how could I go wrong?

Well, upon further teardown and inspection, maybe I *did* go wrong. It needs all new weatherstripping and fuzzies. I suspect that even if I could find a source for the correct profile of weatherstripping, the vendor would want to sell me a 100' (or longer) roll, when all I'd need would be about 8'.

Is there any encouragement to rebuild this window, or should I just cut my losses and find something better?

Know what? I think I'll answer my own question!

I did some deeper research. IF (and that's a big "if") I can pick the proper weatherstrip from the dozens of very similar weatherstrip profiles I've found, it'll cost me about $2 per foot plus shipping. Then there's the fuzzies, too. By the time I'm done, I'll probably have $50 or more into the window, and I'll still have a weathered frame and just an old-looking piece of poo window.

I think this is the case where I should just cut my losses and run.

Some of us Uhaul camper owners have had to deal with this situation. Uhaul side windows are unique to them, and direct replacements are not available. There is a thread on fiberglassrv.com about rebuilding those slider type windows. Perfect fit.com is a source of material, but generally sold in minimum lengths. A member on the fiberglass site found a source on eBay for reasonably priced windows, listed under teardrop trailers. They will even make a custom sized slider for a little over $125 I believe. My opinion is to forget the used window and get a new one. I bought a couple new windows from Scamp at a reasonable cost, and they are Hehr windows. Note I call $150 reasonable compared to any other source for a custom made window, and I was able to use a Scamp rear window in my Uhaul.

Can you post a pic of the windows? Because you used the word "fuzzies" I am assuming that they are Jalouse windows. I just rebuilt the windows in my husbands '61 Shasta and MIGHT be able to help you. I have left over seals from the Shasta and my Zollinger. If nothing else I might be able to point you in the right direction. No matter what it will be lots of work to rebuild any vintage window, but they look O-so nice when done.
