I just recertified back in January. I used my car gun, a little Kel-tec 9mm to qualify. I always carry and have ever since the Luby's cafeteria shootings in Waco, TX. I was raised around guns and have done my share of reloading. My dad was a sheriff for many years in New Mexico and won a handful of trophies shooting in competitions. I learned from him about how to shoot and to "not point that damn thang at no one, loaded or not". and "treat all guns as loaded" and "donchew let no one take that thang from you". So I got my 9mm in the car, .32 auto on me. One in the kayak, one in the camper, one in the nightstand. My wife carries also, a little .22 Beretta. There was a young lady that watched both of her parents shot dead pretty much point blank at the Luby's cafeteria in Waco. She normally carried a pistol in her purse but left it in her car in the parking lot that day. No matter what weapon you chose to carry, if it is not small enough and comfortable enough to carry without it being a hassle you probably won't carry it all the time. A .22 or .25 in your hand ready to fire is much more effective than the big bore, too big to carry comfortably cannon you left at home or in your car. I can hardly tell my little .32 Kel-tec is on me. Kel-tec makes a little .380 that's pretty much the same size. Dad always told me that if I had time to take aim then I might be flirtin' with murder charges 'cause I might could have been runnin' away. Lawful self-defense happens in a heartbeat. A gun that you can "point and shoot" fast and accurate would be a good choice to carry.

We shot 50 rounds to recertify here in Texas. Not bad for such a short-barreled gun and one of the smallest double-action only semi-automatic pistols made.

George,
That is some good shooting. If I am ever in a shooting fray here in Texas, I hope you are around.
BTW, the cafeteria shootings were in the Killeen/Temple area, not Waco.

Bledsoe3:
Yeah, that blue devil won't cause no mo trouble. ;) No, not left handed. The pistol I used is a double-action only and has a long pull. I have a trigger-stop installed and finely adjusted but I still seem to pull the shots to the left anyway. When I use a single-action the problem goes away. But for carry, I want the "always ready" double-action.

That's the one I carry. It's a bit harder to control than the .32 but with practice...

George:

Your shooting is excellent!

Your state is one of those that have less restrictive laws about gun carry and the bad guys don't know who may be carrying and so most likely would take a pass and come to California or other more punitive gun law states. The bad guys like to pray on those people that obey the laws and don't carry. The facts are very clear that those states with liberal carry laws seem to have less predatory actions. Just the doubt of who may be able to protect themselves has an effect on the predators. Most liberal anti gun thinking, doesn't take predators into account, but instead would limit guns or bullets. The existing gun laws on the books are a plenty, if enforced. Anti gun wrong thinking would leave only the law breaking predators with their sadistic power over innocence.

I been in Vermont and inCalifornia with guns. The laws are like night and day. Vermont is the place to be if you want peace of mind.

Again ... well done on your accurate shooting...George.
Would not want to be on the wrong side of that type of shooting.

I had one of those with 5 in the head and 5 in the chest. I hung it up in the garage in front of where my wife parked. She would see it every time she got home before she came in the house.

Love my Kel-Tec 32 for concealed carry. Waiting for the new PF9 9mm to come out to replace the .32 in my pocket. At home the Glock 23 in .40 S&W, with Lasermax integral laser and streamlight is always at the ready. These two usually accompany me in the teardrop as well.

Texas is hot on the trail to passing a Castle Doctrine law. The Texas State Rifle Association will be focusing on this issue for 2007. State reps have been contacted by the NRA and TSRA. Right now taxes and school finance is taking the lion's share of time in the legislature and probably will for quite a while.

This is my concealed carry weapon..A Springfield V-10 Ultra Compact .45 ACP. It is vented and compensated and is very easy to shoot.

In the Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico, there lives a band of varmits armed like no other. This break away group of non-traditional "Prairie Dogs" have vowed to lay in wait for unsuspecting Teardrop Campers, so you should consider yourself warned and take the appropriate counter measures if Teardropping in these parts. I've included a picture below of their leader.
