Worked on the galley cabinets. All built , need to make doors and install some outlets. Both 120 and 12v. Next will be the hatch. I bought my hurricane hinge so I'm ready!!!

(from 10/23/13)... even now, I'm starting more makeovers : removed the toolbox and battery to make a spacer/platform for a much larger, aluminum tonguebox (haven't ordered it yet). But, I'm making the platform based on the dimensions shown on its ebay listing. I used some treated lumber that I used on the original trailer. I put it on it 18 years ago (removed it before starting this build, and it sat in the woodpile for two years), and its still good. The older treated lumber is better than the new stuff.

I spent more time last week on the tonguebox platform; made a baseplate for the aluminum box (ordered it), bought some slide mounts to install between the box and the tongue spacer, and painted all the wood. Today, I installed the slidemounts, and awaited the delivery of the aluminum box, from FedEx. I checked out every vehicle coming down the street (dead-end, so if I missed the delivery coming in, I'd catch it coming out). No delivery. But Fed Ex reported that it was delivered at 2:21 to my front door. I just happened to be in the front yard between 2 and 2:30! Nothing came down the street. This is the 4th time that Fed Ex either delivered it by throwing it in the yard (after 8pm), delivering to the wrong address, driving past my house (with me standing there waving at the driver, and saying that no one was home- special extra cost delivery!), or not delivering it at all (lost). 4 times in a row. When I had my wife order the box on e-bay, using her PayPal account, I forgot to tell her to arrange different shipping methods: never Fed Ex again. She said it would be OK; they couldn't screw up again, surely! I know otherwise: I run shipping-receiving at work, and you wouldn't believe the problems we have with any or all of Fed Ex's various organizations. By the way, I ordered the slide mount from Oregon, drop-shipped from Missouri: promised on Friday, here on Thursday (early), placed on my front porch, and the doorbell sounded. It was our usual UPS driver (many years now). Same difference at work between the two companies. Just venting....I've just vented to a nice customer service rep in Colorado (no bad words), but my BP is up about 40 points I bet. I've told everybody I know that I'd rather pay more just to avoid Fed Ex !

What'd I do today on my build? Well.... I did some minor unpacking from its first serious shakedown cruise –we got home yesterday. So today I made a list of solar panel hardware I'm gonna need. Got my tape measure out and ran it across the tongue for the custom box I'll build this winter.

Yeah, I know. This really isn't a "Whatcha do on your build today?" post, but figured it might get you guys and gals motivated to put in some overtime. You know; inspiration.

I did the final trim cap on the 2 sides and the joints across the roof on the standy. Next step...jack it up, made a template and fit the trim to the wheelwells and bottom edge. Doug

In truth, there are so many wonderful places here, it is IMPOSSIBLE to see it all. Every time I go, I find something new, even when I've been there many many times.

Got my HF trailer done but for 1 nut that holds the hub on. The one nut is to big to tighten down.
To day I was home and a funcars04 army kit came up on E bay a 401/2 X 48" open tailgate for $650.00 at a
Greyhound bus stop .So when to hit buy now and it was gone.
Had I been faster it would be mine. It seam that they put up one kit at the first part of the month . Never mine it the last part

I have been gluing in the foam panels that sit in the frames. A smear of glue holds them in place. I tried to hot wire the 1/4" extra thickness off but it didn't work. I was unable to find the correct diameter of ni-chrome wire. Next I tried to slice off the excess with a bow saw. Total failure! As a last resort, I pulled out the trusty orbital sander. That urethane foam is no match for the orbital sander. In 30 seconds the foam was reduced to only 1mm high above the timber frame. I stuck some 80 grit sand paper to a piece of left over frame (2 5/8" wide) with double sided sticky tape and with a few rubs up and down, the foam was perfectly level with the frame. I am well past the halfway point with the foam inlays and the side of the TD will be ready to fit and glue the remaining ply skin. To hold the ply down, I will be using the vacuum cleaner to suck it all down nice and firm. photos to come soon. The urethane foam sands so easy, no safety problems either, I checked out the MSDS sheets first.

Update, one week later...after no help from Fed Ex, just phone calls, my wife went out around the area to look at similar addresses that other deliveries had gone to before. At one on another street, she spotted a big box between the gate and a bush, looked at the label, and it was our missing package (two days later). Fed Ex was still clueless until we called them, and informed them that we had delivered our own!!, and wouldn't use them again. End of story. So, that lets me resume the tonguebox changeover again. Today, I fitted the plywood baseplate (w/3 coats of aluminum heavy duty paint), drilled holes (waterproofed the drilled spots), and bolted it to the slide mounts (with ten 3/8" bolts, fender washers, and nylocks). Test fit the new box, and tested functionality prior to bolting it to the baseplate (tomorrow). Here's pics:

Will also mount the pull handle, locking device, support casters under the baseplate, and install the battery and charger inside the box (if I have the time). I've been working 12-13 hour days, with no breaks (or much help) for two weeks straight (Sat-Sun off), and commuting 120 miles round-trip each day. At 63, I've sorta started showing signs of slowing down (at least on weekend projects).

Next day (11/10/13): did a parts inventory, figured I still needed the casters and some shrink tubing, as well as a few more 3/8-16 bolts for the box hold-downs. The wife wanted to get a coupla items at the Home Depot as well, so we went there together. While there, getting the parts, I also threw in another item (a backup digital test meter-Greenlee), and was ready to get back to the tonguebox. I caught her looking at "sale" tools, for Xmas items, and casually mentioned the fact that a year ago I was promised a Milwaukee combo of cordless tools (to finish the trailer build). Then I went back, to fetch another extension cord for the tonguebox, and returned to see her buying the impact driver and drill set for me!. This set:

After we got home (after a long sidetrip to Wallyworld) and ate lunch, I mounted the casters (bad photo)

Then, with light running out, I mounted the baseplate pull handle(s), one on top and one below, and hurriedly took pictures.

I had charged both of the new tools' batteries while having lunch, so I got to use both today. Wonderful! I sure missed using my friend's Snap-On tools since I brought my trailer build home from his shop; now (a little late for the hard parts of the build), I have the "good" tools I had needed for so long.

I've made some progress this weekend on the forward bunk of my tear ...


That's the Honeywell 8KBTU A/C installed in the far end.


I built in a little table that when pushed in serves as a shelf.


Here is the table pulled out. To the left where the 'dip' is above the A/C is where I'll install the ladder - after I build it next weekend. Hopefully I'll get all this stained and poly-coated before then.
