46: Stainless Steel Micro-Airstream behind motorcycle

Postby ST1100 » Sun Oct 06, 2013 3:41 pm

Yesterday I improved my "tube bending machine" changed the 25 cm to 24 cm radius and added two more discs with 22cm and 20 cm radius.

The 20 cm inside gives me 25 cm outside to bend the curves around the tires and the 24 cm gives me 30 cm outside for all other frames of the roof and at the lower frame inside the skirt.

and today I bent my tubes by hand and I am very satisfied with the result.

Unfortunately I have another construction site in my bathroom which takes most of my weekend time.

The last two weeks I worked in the evening to make the supports for the outer areas of the deck.
There are two solid pieces made from thicker aluminium out of my former Guzzi bike boxes.
And two angles riveted to the front cross bars and they should prevent the deck from being bent down,
when the cabins weight will lie on it.

Then I riveted it under the deck.

Today I began to fit the lower front bar into the bow of the stainless sheet, that I clecoed temporary to the upper front bar.
I needed two hours of bending and drilling and sawing, until all seems to fit perfect together and then I replaced the clecos with rivets.
Here a view with the bows for the wheel house clamped to the frame.

And another view under the front of the trailer.

Hello guys and girls,

after a summer with little money, because I "needed" a Hobie Cat,
today I bought eventually the rest of material to finish my build.

4 sheets (1 m x 2 m) of 0.6 mm stainless steel (40 kg) and 36 m of 20 x 20 x 2 mm rectangular aluminum tubes.
This will be enough to build my sleeping box over the winter.

So I can finish my basic trailer and start to build the frame of the box.

Yes, everyone needs a Hobie Cat, they just don't realize it... :D

Had one in the '80s, Hobie-16 in Cocoa Beach, FL. A real hoot. Nowadays, it'll probably be a Sunfish, to teach the grand kids how to sail. Gotta build the TD first, though...

After storing my Hobiecat in the barn for the winter, I continued two weeks ago with the stern of my trailer.
I found a stainless gratin dish in the supermarket that fits perfect as a license plate bay.
Cut a hole into my stern sheet, added LED lighting for the plate and riveted it to the sheet.

Image

Next step was drilling the holes to the rear upper bar and clecoing the sheet to the stern.

Then I had to build the four supports under the deck.

Image

I riveted it under the deck using my wonder tool, a HAZET riveting gun ! WOW ! It's a blast how simple and fast that thing works.

Image

The aluminum for the supports is strong aircraft duraluminum from my first bike boxes I built 1987 for my Moto Guzzi.
The sticker is a vintage souvenir !!!
