Head Procrastinator

Postby capnTelescope » Sat Nov 23, 2013 1:36 am

Hello, everyone. I'm Brad, from Round Rock, Texas. I'm laying claim to the title of head procrastinator. I don't think anyone else has taken longer than me from registering here to actually starting a build. Check out the join date! This is going on ten years. If you can beat that, you're a better procrastinator than I am, and I am humbled. I've lurked around, made a few posts, asked a dumb question or two (Yes, there *are* dumb questions), and absorbed as much as I could. And began my design...

When I was a kid, I remember reading one of the original Popular Mechanics teardrop articles in an actual PM Magazine! I thought those early teardrops were cool then, and still do.

I forget what happened in 2004 that got me interested again. Was it that TV program? I found this forum's website and dived into research. Thanks to the nature of California real estate and Home Owner A$$ociations, until mid-2010 I didn't have a physical place to make a build unless I rented storage and work space. Not happening. Through a series of "life-changing events," I found myself relocated to central Texas, retired, and with room for a workshop and space to build my dream teardrop.

My background includes a couple summers assembling in my dad's cabinet shop, an industrial engineering degree, 18 years as a manufacturing engineer, 20 years as a computer programmer/analyst, and finally 5 years as an automotive technician, plus many years as a woodworking hobbyist. I fully intend to integrate all of this experience into the design and building of my Tear.

I invite everyone over to my design thread. My design and build includes full access to my own CNC router. I believe that is a first. Thanks to that, I plan to try a couple of things I haven't seen here. Look for "CNC Design," to be followed by "CNC Build" in the build journals.

I want to give a heartfelt "thank you" to all the contributors to the TNTTT forums, past and present. Many of you will see your own ideas in my build. Without all your expertise and enthusiasm, I wouldn't have known where to start.

Let's get started. I'm looking forward to it!

Brad

Welcome Brad
Sounds like you have all of the skills, knowledge, and tools required to build the Teardrop of your dreams.
Having followed the Forum for 10 years, you know we all love pictures! :)
But 19 posts in 10 years??????........you have got to change some of your old habits! :R
We look forward to following your CNC Build. And can't wait until you become a CNC Camper!
As it is not always just about the build! I think you are going to enjoy the new family of friends you are going to have once you become a "Teardrop Camper"
Now get at it!

Hey all,

Thanks for the greetings!

I promise more posts, lots of pictures and even hi-def video. I'll be sharing drawing files, too. I haven't posted much, up to now, cuz I wasn't building anything. I've been mostly reading and learning.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

I shall not disappoint.

Hi Mary,

You're welcome most anytime. I'm often blasting through Sealy on the Interstate, going to Houston. PM me and I can give you directions, etc.

Same goes for anyone else in the area. You're welcome to come by (by appointment, of course). PM me.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

I don't expect you to!
And Miss Piggy? I don't have your woodworking skills, so had to work with what I had! :R
But we do love her!

Hi Norm.

I honestly hadn't ever given that a single thought. So I went looking for a few snappy Destiny quotes and found this one right off the bat:

“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”
― William Jennings Bryan

"However haphazardly," I would add.

I think you're on to something, Norm.
