Newbie From North Carolina

Postby Augie Dog » Wed Nov 27, 2013 7:17 pm

Greetings All,
I am from Apex,North Carolina married with two sons. Oldest son is at NC State, youngest just graduated from high school and will be attending Wake Tech next semester. I am a bridge inspector with the state and my wife teach's first grade. We love camping RV or tent doesn't matter. We are now empty nesters and have unlimited time to go camping. As much as I think the tear drop trailers are cool they do not satisfy my need for an RV type vehicle. Please continue reading and you will see what my intentions are. I plan to ask lots of questions so please be gentle with me..
I stumbled across this site and can not believe there are other people out there that think like me!! Here are my plans. I purchased a 25 ft. travel trailer in 2000 and used it almost every other weekend. Fast forward to 2013 I have found my beloved RV has sprung a leak and passenger side rear corner sub frame has rotted out. It is now rendered USELESS to me!! Now here is where my warped brain kicks in. I want to purchase a 22 - 24 ft. goose neck and build my own camper using all the components from my USELESS travel trailer. If I succeed with this project I should never have to worry about my investment rotting out again. So with that said I look forward to starting my project.

Being empty nesters you might not need a 22 - 24 footer. You will not have to drag along 200 pounds of food to feed two growing kids on a weekend trip. Downsize a bit more to a 16 - 18 footer cargo trailer and make it you own.

Take at look at the Cargo Conversion area of this forums. I believe theres like 3 being built now and a lot more that been made in the past to read up on.

Welcome to the forums and enjoy your stay.

Welcome! Why not build on your current travel trailer frame? The frame should still be in decent shape. Whatever you decide, have fun with your build!

Welcome, I lived in Apex when I did the majority of my build. My son went to Kindergarden at Baucomm elementary. I think I agree with the post above, look at converting a cargo trailer. With something as big as you are talking, sealing the exterior is a really big job. If you convert a cargo trailer you can really focus you energy on the part you care about the most, the interior.
