Congrats on getting hooked up with one of those Canadian babes. They do shine up ones house and keeps you warm.

I have 2 321B's While they do have the newer valve and such they are large single mantle lanterns. I really like those. I got my first one on the fleebay for a good price and the 2nd from Murf on the Coleman forum. Both have been great runners.

I might go back into town today and look closer at more modern single mantle at the DI. They want a pretty penny for it but at least there is no shipping. And I need an excuse to go someplace or I will start going crazy cooped up in the house and start cleaning or something nuts like that. 8am and the temp is 3F

My 502s

Image

Left to right, Aug 1962, fount is stamped Model 501, it is burning and boiling water in the little tea kettle. Middle is my first 502 July 63. I usually burn kerosene it that one now. Right one came in the 502 aluminum box. was wrapped in what looks to me to be a flour sack. Got at an estate sale. Sticker on the closed box said "It works. $5" I opened the box just enough to see there was a stove in it and headed to pay for it. Pretty clean though the grill is bent down just a little. No biggy. July 65

I need to get a better picture

I love those little stoves. A couple of the real beat ones I customized and use them when I need an extra burner. Nice finds!

Another nice one Eric.

Here is yesterday's fix for me

Image

My first 285 Unleaded from May 1991. Got it at the local DI. Paid to much. Oh well. better than buying cocaine.

It was real dirty. I wiped it down, a bit of glass cleaner. There was Coleman fuel in the fount. The burner caps shot flames when I tried it. Put on a set of Peerless mantles and away it ran. My biggest gripe with it is it has the neoprene pump cup. Made sure it was at least lubed up. I will probably try some RUG some day. Do not know what to think of the smallish fount and globe but oh well, something slightly different.

I counted up lanterns last night. If I was to not run out of fuel, energy and time I could probably get 35 lanterns going. And about 25 stoves. Yes I am sick

I have a 285 that my husband bought from a co-worker years ago. Runs great, but.... I like to de-fuel my lanterns before storing and EVERY cotton pickin' time I forget about the metal shield and break the mantles because the shield falls. :x You would think that after 3 or 4 times I would remember that and remove the shield? Nope not me.

When I cleaned up my 285 I found the heat shield had been put between the top of the manifold and the vent. Then the vent screwed on. I can not tell if it was ran that way or not. Yeah. That shield is not held on very good. I was worried about transporting the lantern. Make sure it is one that remains standing upright.

If I'm not mistaken, my 288 has a spring clip that holds the heat shield in. Something similar could be done with the 285.

My 285 has that clip but it is pretty pitiful.
