1/8 plywood oklahoma ?

Postby coyote » Sun Dec 08, 2013 8:29 am

 I have searched the forum, and been to all the suppliers in Tulsa (as far as I know) I can find no 1/8 Baltic Birch, or any 1/8 plywood. Got several strange looks, and disbelief by a couple. One town close by has 7 sheets of Luan, but that is all I can find. Can anyone offer a tip on how to get the stuff. The basic frame is built, so I can travel if it is necessary. Surely Oklahoma has the stuff some where. What I see about online ordering is minimum orders of a couple hundred or so. The frame is built, sides are going up this week, time is running. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks Dave

When my local supplier ran out of 1/8" Baltic Birch. I found Wholesale imports on the web (search for Baltic Birch, Russian Baltic Birch, etc.) and contacted them via email and phone and they told me who their dealers are in the Denver area. It took me a couple weeks of looking. I even tried to get some shipped from the east coast but the shipping cost as way too much. The import http://www.wolstenholme.com/ (might give them a call and see if any dealers in your area) gave me three of his dealers for Colorado. One was then one I had already been using which was out of stock, and two new place that I never had heard about or checked (even after search the yellow pages) and they both had 100's of sheets in stock. You might also check with local kitchen cabinet builders, ask them where they get their BB as many use Baltic Birch in various thicknesses for cabinets.

Another importer is http://forestplywood.com/

Good luck hunting

When I was working on my build, I called every lumber place in Oklahoma City looking for 1/8 inch ply. I only found one place that would even talk about 1/8 inch ply. Forest Lumber in Oklahoma City had 4x8 sheets of 1/8 inch birch plywood and the quality was excellent but the price was pretty steep as I recall. The only problem I ran into was that later in my project I wanted another sheet or two to skin my hatch and I found the stock they had at that time (a month or so later) was not nearly as nice as the earlier sheets I had purchased. I had no luck whatsoever in finding 1/8 inch baltic birch, although I found it easily in 1/4 and 1/2 inch 5x5 sheets.

Good Luck,

Mike

These guys list imported birch plywood: http://www.cedarcreek.com/plywood-hardwood-tulsa

In OKC: http://www.phoenixhardwoodinc.com/ http://www.mckinleylumber.com/Plywood.html (see it on their web site!)

Also the Home Depot is surprisingly connected and can find stuff you wouldn't expect them to get for you.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus

OK! O.k.c. Has it. I had called Cedar Creek in Tulsa before but they are wholesale only and had blown me off but, they do have 5x5. The guy listened and finally said ok, find someone with an account and have them put it on "will call" and I can pick it up. $13.50 each ( plus my buyers markup). Anyway, thanks to you guys who responded, problem resolved. Now about that door installation that's coming. . . .Dave
